"The quality and pedigree of the students?" Really? Because they're Ivy League graduates? I don't find insecurity in the original post so much as arrogance - and perhaps the insecurity it masks. From my experience with Yalies, my guess is the "fit" with Yale is perfect.

I agree that that particular element of her post could have been better stated. Perhaps she could have said, "I find that many students at Yale had the potential to attend programs that are traditionally ranked higher than Yale's, but the totality of course offerings, career outcome, and student body led them to select Yale."

The point does stand, though. I think that, in spite of some elements that may be overzealous, Yale does go toe-to-toe in certain placements along with the very best of them. Does this make it a "top x" program? Who knows. I don't find this student's attitude to be representative of Yale as a whole, but I do find the underlying sentiment to be a common theme. If we separate the two, there is some good stuff to be found in the post.

Just got invited to interview! :-D :-D :-D I'm so excited!

I have the option to visit New Haven or do a Skype interview. Does anyone know if choosing Skype vs. New Haven would affect my candidacy at all? I really really want to go to New Haven, but they only gave me one day as an option, and it is a logistically difficult day for my schedule.

Have you previously visited the campus? That would weigh into my decision making process. Where are you located?

I haven't visited campus before (based in Chicago). I would DEFINITELY visit if admitted, and again, I want to visit now, but the particular day they offered is difficult for me. So do you think it will affect THEIR admissions decision if i haven't visited? Thanks for your help!!

They always say it doesn't matter, but circumstances may still dictate. If you have previously visited, work full-time, and areally far away, then it probably doesn't matter at all. If you have never visited and could easily make the trip that would show a lack of commitment. Still, probably doesn't matter much.

No gotcha's or anything. Just a friendly conversation about your resume and why the school.

Sort of! Honestly more about your work experience, interests and why Yale. It was a very fluid and fun conversation. Just enjoy it!

. Additionally, the idea the idea that you "find insecurity in it" is... well I'll just say that it's a bit dubious. Cheers and good luck to you in your application process.

What's "dubious" about it? I said what I said and I meant what I said about that particular post without skirting around it.

As we are all applicants, let's focus on getting in first. That said, anyone else interviewing tomorrow? I'm getting all nervous and junk.
