Hi everyone,
Congratulations to those who made it to their dream MBA programs. Good luck

For anyone considering Ryerson's Ted Rogers MBA program, here are my 2 cents on it as a recent graduate (international student):
1. The program is really short in duration: 16 months translates to about 2-3 semesters of in-class instructions. Most social activities only take place during the 2 regular semesters: Fall and Winter and the campus is usually dead during the rest of the time. So, make most of all the opportunities you get during those 2 semesters.
2. Beware of the program administration: if you think that your admissions officers are slow now but things might improve once you're in the program, you're WRONG! It takes eons for most of the support staff to respond to your requests. The program uses a form of course registration which was phased out in the 90s in most of the western world. Courses you thought you were interested when you entered the program are seldom offered in the semester of your choice. Most of the senior leadership is extremely lackadaisical to the needs of international students. So be prepared to fight for your rights and be extremely confident and forceful about what you need to succeed - you are the customer, after all!
3. Have very, very realistic post-MBA career goals: Careers office is grossly underprepared to address the challenges faced by international students transitioning to a new country. While they are the nicest bunch of people (like most Canadians are), their tepid responses to international students' need for networking, interview preparation, and resume/cover letter editing translates into gross underemployment amongst alumni. An internet research reveals post-MBA job titles such as Executive Assistant and Administrative Assistant associated with recent MBAs. I know of friends who drive Uber full-time post-MBA - not the most glorious post-MBA career option but hey it pays the bills right! And don't be fooled by their marketing material on post-MBA salaries! Except a few lucky ones, most MBA graduates make around 50-55k which is well below average post-MBA salaries, even for Toronto.
4. Program's reputation: Graduates find employment based on their rapport with potential employer and not on the back of the program's reputation. You will struggle to find entry-level roles despite having worked for top companies and/or having managed teams back home. Hardly 2-3 employers visit to recruit MBAs from Ryerson - so grab those jobs ASAP. Also, network determinedly - with alumni, with Partners at Consulting firms, with senior leadership at Banks and Telecoms, but don't rely on the Careers office.
5. Focus on jobs, not internships: Despite their claims, most internships don't lead to full-time employment with the same employer. I have seen friends struggle to find any jobs even 8 - 12 months after graduation, some even longer.
One final point: Dale is the king during the MBA program, cajole him and your MBA journey will be extremely gratifying. Post-MBA, you're still on your own
