Dinged after R1 WL. Pulled out my heart to make a video (wasted a lot of time and $$) and submitted additional LOR, update letter after being put on WL.
Guys who were able to get off the waiting list, can you please share with us what you had done to enhance your odds? i.e did you submit a new essay or recommendation letter or you boosted your GMAT score???? I'd appreciate your input and insights..
Congrats! Were you waitlisted in R1? Also, what is this video that everyone's talking about here? Even I am from India, on waitlist after submitting in R2. Thanks
Do international students get called from R2 waitlist ( originally R2 applicant)? And do they get considered for any financial help? I'm from bangladesh!
From what I know, scholarship $ is less likely. They likely already have a budget allocated towards scholarships. Hence if money frees up, it would likely only be the case that someone wait-listed at HBS and initially accepted with $$$ at Booth, gets accepted to HBS and his scholarship $ frees up. Anyhow, most likely scholarship $$$ is not in the picture, and if so a lot smaller than those admitted directly.
Just got my call! Based out of DC, and I was a round 1 Waitlisted Applicant as well! Still in Shock!
Can you please give us your brief course of action since knowing you were waitlisted?
Regards

I would definitely advise the video over the written letter. I spoke to a few students that were waitlisted their year, and they all did videos to get off the waitlist. My video was pretty simple. I talked about any updates since my application, and why Booth was a good fit for me. I also requested a third recommendation. Only other thing was that I spaced out the communication, so they could remember my name. I dont know if it was one or a multiple of things, but I am very glad with the outcome. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the insight. Congrats once again. And kudos for dealing with the anxiety, might I add

If you don't mind sharing this, did your video include any graphic visualization or did it simply show you talking about the topics you mentioned?
Since the video could only be 45 seconds, I decided to do a simple video with me just speaking to my phone. I'm sure different people will tell you different things, but I thought with my updates and the time limit the simple video would work the best. If you don't have a lot of updates, a creative video on why Booth might actually work great. I hope that helps
Hi, I have been waitlisted in R2 as well. Planning on sending an additional video and LOR. Not sure of the topic for the video. I read that many people send an update letter as well. What is that? I understood that we can send either a video or an essay. So whats an update letter?

Im not sure if you are reading older posts, but in the emails I received round 1 they kept emphasizing to do either the essay or the video. The update letter would be the same as the essay that states any changes or updates that have happened since your application. I went with the video, because it showed more originality and the essays could be re-purposed from different waitlist. I wanted to send both, but didnt because I did not want to get faulted for not following instructions.
Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about if it would be useful for me to retake the GMATs while I sit on the Booth waitlist (round2 applicant). 740 (Q49/V44/IR8/AWA6). GMAT is definitely not the thing keeping me out but my application has alot of silver (big 4 advisory, 3.6GPA, CPA, state school BS/MS, mediocre to no extracurriculars ) but no gold so I thought maybe it might be worth it to give it a go.
I took the GMAT fairly recently (mid Dec-15) and just took a practice test cold and scored about the same as my pre-test exams so I don't think the knowledge loss is that bad. Would studying for a few weeks and hoping for the +/- 30 pts to skew in my favor be worth the time and $250 or would a best case 760 versus a 740 not improve my chances meaningfully?

I am concerned this would show poor judgment. The GMAT is a threshold metric and a 740 is solid. There are likely other things you could do like join a board for an organization that is related to something you have shown interest in. Ideally something that you could continue to be involved in at bschool. Or some kind of work success.
