Now divisibility test for 8 is last 3 digits divisible by 8

Statement 1 : DE can be 40 or 80

So insufficient

Statement 2 DE can be 80 only as D= 0 is not possible since DE is 2 digit number

So b is the answer

But for statement 2, we do not say anything about E. Do D = 8 as you say but DE can be 80 or 88 and still be divisible by 8. So answer C I would say

For any number to be divisible by 8, the last three digits should be divisible by 8.
We have 8 in hundreds places.

From A --> 800, 840, 880 all 3 are divisible by 5. Not sufficient.
From B --> 800, 880, 888 etc. Not sufficient.

From A & B together, we still get two possible answers i.e 800 and 880. So answer is E.

Consider a seven digit integer A,BC7,8DE. If the integer is divisible by 8, what is the value of two-digit integer DE?

(1) A,BC7,8DE is divisible by 5
(2) D is divisible by 8

Consider a seven digit integer A,BC7,8DE. If the integer is divisible by 8, what is the value of two-digit integer DE?

For a number to be divisible by 8, the last 3 digits of the number should be divisible by 8.

(1) A,BC7,8DE is divisible by 5

The unit digit of the number divisible by 5 should be 0 or 5. But we do not have know any information about D.
Option 1 - Not Sufficient

(2) D is divisible by 8
The only possible option for D is 8, but E can be 0 or 8.

Option 2 - Not sufficient

Option (1) + (2) together
From 2 , we know that D is 8. Now when we consider 1 +2 together, we know that E has to be 0 when D is 8.

So we get the last 3 digit number as 888 which is divisible by 8

(1) + (2) is Sufficient

Ans: C

exc4libur I'm no Bunnuel, infact there is no one like the legend himself, But i can offee you support. D cannot be zero since the question stem states that DE is a two digit integer hence D cannot be zero.

Kudos if that was helpful. If you have any queries refer to my solution above
