MIM programs have become more popular, but no need to wait till next year!

This is not the main topic but if you could briefly elaborate... is MBA always better than MiM?

I have just started my GMAT prep. I want to apply in LBS. Earliest I can do is in R3. Should I apply for wait. If I get rejected, will it affect my future chances when I apply again?

Some B-schools such as INSEAD LBS, their round 2 is already over, do you think I should apply in round 3 of LBS, INSEAD etc?

I had a 710 on GMAT before and I’m confident of reaching 750 this time. My target is LBS R2. What are my chances? (Indian IT Male from a non-premier undergrad college)

Great question! SnehilSingh19, So MiM programs are for candidates that have little to no business experience and help you get the management experience and introduce you to the fundamentals of business. Great for an Engineer to get and be able to move quickly into a management position.
An MBA is for someone with 3+ years of professional experience and understanding of the different departments with career growth and likely 2 promotions. This will cover the foundation of business and take a deep dive into a concentration or function.

Congratulations on your admit DSomesh, ! They offer a great concentration in Capital Markets and Investments. You can accept this admit, pay the deposit and then try for other schools. Not much time left, focus on 1 or 2 really well crafted applications.

What is the push for MBA in Fall 2022? if its age/too much experience, certainly apply in R3. It shouldn’t hurt your chances if you reapply in R1 - specifically this year as it has been incredibly competitive in R1 this cycle thus far.

Since MiM is ideal for engineers with no managerial experience, should I prioritize MiMs from more elite colleges than MBAs from lesser ones?

1. I have been waitlisted at Stern without an interview - is there a possibility it might actually convert?

2. What other schools can I look at was thinking of Tepper and Georgetown

So January is still a great time to apply for INSEAD and LBS. I wouldn’t push to beyond for INSEAD.

sounds like you can be competitive for LBS, 750 will be even better.

Do you have any work experience?

So all T15 schools have seen a dramatic increase in applications in R1 and they have had such great candidates that they have used wait list for qualified candidates just in case R2 shows a dramatic decrease in applications. So there is still a good chance! You’ll want to send an update letter to Stern to help boost your chances. Tepper same thing with R1 applications being overwhelming. I’m not 100% sure with Georgetown, can be a great option too.

ok excellent, MIM is a great option. MBA’s are looking for some leadership/management experience professional or socially - like with a NGO

Here is a question which i received via subs form ........ Profile- Female, Indian, 28 years, 6 years of experience in marketing insights. GMAT- 710. Currently working at big global tech firm as a senior research analyst. Good career progression, with a promotion 6 months back. Decent extra- curriculars with lot of volunteering work around educating the underprivileged. Building on my professional experience, Short term goal is to step up to a role in product marketing at high tech companies and long term is to lead marketing in an Indian deep-tech startup.
Applications background- I applied to 6 schools. It doesn’t look good for me so far. Waitlisted at Fuqua and Marshall, Dinged at Darden and Cornell, awaiting results of UNC and McCombs. I strongly want to join MBA in 2022, but do not want to compromise and settle for lower colleges. Any advice on colleges I can apply to in R2? Or would you suggest I try in R1 next year?

I am not sure if this question has already been answered in the chat.

Dear Aringo

Do you know if there is a way to speed up the flagging procedure for online exams?

They’ve told me it could last up to 20 days to receive my official score report

sadly that would make me miss my R2 deadline

Tough season all around for everyone, especially Indian candidates. Sounds like you have a strong profile and one that any other year would have yielded more than 1 admit from these 6 schools. My thoughts: If you don’t want to compromise on school selection and go below Top 20, then apply next year or consider European schools or J-term programs. If you want to focus on your experience and career outcomes and getting started sooner than later, Emory, Georgetown, Kelley, Rice, Foster - all fantastic schools and great placements.
