I did my bachelor's from NIT Warangal, interned at Samsung, working full-time at Salesforce for the last 3.5 years. Got one promotion, and won hackathons. I have done some community work, taught 60 students for 3 months, and led various clubs in college. Led an organization in college which was a makerspace and the goal was to spread innovation across and beyond college. Planning to get into some good college, move to the consulting domain (mentioned in the essays) or PM role (haven't mentioned in the essays). Want to eventually work on the west coast or mid-west.

Hi meet459
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, your GMAT and GPA look decent for the schools you are targeting. 3.5 years of experience also looks okay. What matters more is how you demonstrate your leadership skills, your ability to work across different cultures, your passion to learn. A pivot from tech to consulting/PM is very generic, talk about it in detail, what exactly do you want to do with your MBA, what are your short- and long-term goals and how will you step by step achieve them. These are the kind of things adcoms are interested to hear. You have mentioned about teaching 60 students for a period of time, do you have any statistics on the impact your work did on them? Build a strong narrative around your application.

Hi Priyanka, thanks for the detailed insight on my profile. I tried to connect via the link attached but wasn't able to submit the details.
I don't have any stats on the impact since the kids' learning is all practical based, and I taught them when school started. I doubt I would be able to quantify any results from that.
Also, regarding leadership skills and other details, would you be up for a connect? I will mail you my CV on your email id.
Once again, thanks for the review.

I feel my work-ex is pretty good but my primary concern is my GMAT 95th percentile 675, not sure if its a 730 or 720.

College: Tier-2 College in India, well known.

Co-curricular activities:

Built solar electric vehicles and healthcare devices in college (Won a couple of national competitions)

Built Vertical farming setups after college as a hobby project

Volunteered with iSpirit to build OCEN (A digital public infrastructure NFO)
Currently volunteering with People+AI to democratise access to compute

Work ex:

Worked for KPMG India and engaged in 1 international project. (2020-2021)

Joined a fintech startup early on (5/6th employee), developed their product and then led product initiatives both internally and externally for the company, acted as the right hand to the CEO to drive all the product initiatives and helped scale it to $100M GTV

Got 100k funded by my previous startup to build products in the fintech AI space. Startup didn't hit PMF, we shut down 2 months ago.

LOR:
Co-founder and CEO of the startup: Worked very closely with him for 3 years
Strategy lead of the Non-profit I'm working with: Haas alumni, knows me well

Post-MBA goal: Product role at an AI focused company Meta, Tesla or AI startups
Long term goal: Build my own venture in the AI space

For you as an Indian, male, engineer, do consider improving your GMAT to 705+. Your GPA is the lowest end of averages of T15/20 schools. So you need to give the schools something that will offset this. The rest is all about showcasing your multi-faceted profile that makes you a compelling / interesting candidate.

Overall, your significant work experience and unique extracurricular activities set you apart. While your GPA may present challenges, it can also be a hurdle. So consider retaking your GMAT and aiming for the 695-705 range. Your leadership experience, innovative projects, and clear post-MBA goals will help strengthen your application. Focus on delivering a well-rounded application that showcases your strengths and aligns with the values of your target programs. Good luck!

We’d be happy to discuss your profile in more detail to enhance your application’s competitiveness.Click here to schedule a free call with us for an in-depth profile evaluation and additional benefits. We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools.

Hey figureitoutdg,

Vashi here from LilacBuds.

For Berkeley & UCLA you have very good chances of converting and your GMAT will certainly not be the reason for your rejection.
For Columbia it can be a little tricky. As seen post-Covid holistic profile is more important and you fit that bill with your current GMAT score for your application to be considered.
A lot will depend on how you present your essays and what is the content. Make sure that your essays reflect your strong professional experience. Play to your strengths.
Alum connect can be a game changer as we have observed in a lot of past results.

We at LilacBuds would love to assist you by connecting you to alums/ mentors of top B-schools and would therefore request more details about your profile. You can connect with our team for a detailed profile analysis at https://lilacbuds.com/services/mba-cour ... mpaign=GCV or leave a message on +91-84483 35484 for a direct reachout.
You can also share your CV on [email protected] .

Hoping to hear from you.

Hi figureitoutdg
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. A 675 FE seems decent for the schools you are targeting. However, your GPA looks below average for your target schools. You might have difficulty establishing your academic performance. If a 705 is possible, it would greatly enhance your chances.

Having KPMG under your resume is also a plus, now shifting your work to startups and managing a product might have left you with great numbers to impress the adcoms. Highlight IMPACT, demonstrate your leadership skills. Working on solar energy, vertical farming and your volunteering work would add diversity to your application.

To better assess your profile and provide more tailored advice, I recommend connecting for a detailed discussion.

Hi. You are probably about 20 points below average looking at India-based admits just using the decision tracker. https://gmatclub.com/forum/decision-tra ... try=0&we=0
however, you have some good things going for you with the Startup, so maybe that will counter-balance it. The score is average for the programs but not your competitive pool unfortunately 😔

Hi ahmar110,
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. I would recommend you wait a couple of years more and then apply. Meanwhile work on strengthening your application. Build your ECs, work at NGOs, pursue a hobby, something that make your profile unique. Another important thing is to connect with students at these top programs, who are from similar backgrounds. This will help you build your network.

Though your nationality gives you a slight edge from the diversity perspective, your work experience, GPA and GMAT are all on the lower side of the typical class profiles. Of course, you could attempt this year, but it would have been better to defer your plans to R1 in Fall 2025. This will give you the much needed time to improve your GMAT to say 685+, add to your work experience, and in the process, accumulate richer examples of your achievements. It would also help you upgrade your profile by pursuing specific tactics.

My journey as a Product Manager has provided me with a deep understanding of how my work can make a meaningful impact on the world and has brought clarity to my life’s purpose. I believe that technology serves as a powerful equalizer, capable of improving living standards. My mission is to leverage technology to uplift those in less fortunate circumstances, both personally and professionally.

In the near term, I aim to continue developing impactful technology products as a Product Manager while gaining broader experience in managing different facets of business as a product leader. Eventually, I aspire to launch my own venture. Pursuing an MBA at this stage would accelerate my progress by enhancing my knowledge in finance, accounting, and economics, allowing me to gain practical experience through projects, and providing invaluable opportunities to network with entrepreneurs and investors in the industry.

Hey, mani007

Your profile for top MBA programs is strong, with over 6 years of working experience in tech, high GRE scores and a good GPA. You want to continue creating impactful technology products and eventually start your own business, both of which can easily be accomplished through an MBA.

Top programs such as UCLA Anderson, Foster, Tepper, Fuqua, Scheller, and McCombs will provide you with the right knowledge on how businesses operate as well as practical exposure and networking opportunities that will help you reach your goals. These programs have flexible curricula offering many electives, allow students to tackle real-world business problems, and possess vibrant start-up communities.

To enhance your applications, emphasize leadership experiences by quantifying the impact you have had on others and composing persuasive essays that narrate your story, uniquely fitting into every program.

With your strong profile and clear goals, you have a solid chance of gaining admission to these top MBA programs. Therefore, applying in Round 1 would give you an edge over other candidates who also apply at the same time despite having very different backgrounds from yours. Good luck with your application!

Let's connect and discuss your profile in detail and help you craft a killer application .Click here to schedule a complimentary profile evaluations session with our experts . We match you with the students and alums of top B-Schools according to your background and target schools.

What is the scale against which one should look at your GPA: 7, 8, or 10? It could mean a huge difference if it is on 7 or on 8 / 10. If is 8 / 10, then you need to beef up your candidature much more, including improving your GRE scores.

Scores are a defense and, hence, the foundation of your candidacy, especially since you are an Indian, a male, and an engineer - three attributes you cannot change. I will skip my queries on the rest of your narrative for now.

Then please definitely consider improving your GRE to 335 or higher. You may also want to pursue a few specific graded courses to alleviate concerns about your perceived ability to deal with the academic rigor of an MBA program. I also hope that you have evidence to showcase how you have already done something to use technology to improve living standards.

Hi @Mani007
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Regarding your profile, your six years of product management expertise and your high GRE score put you in a good position for top MBA programs. Your enthusiasm for using technology to have a positive social effect is admirable and has the potential to weave a compelling story in your application. Your target schools align well with your career goals.

While your work experience and GRE is impressive, your GPA is on the lower end. Can you justify your low score? Are there any valid reasons to support it? You can also compensate for this by highlighting other academic achievements, such as challenging coursework, research projects, or academic awards.

You should work on crafting a compelling narrative, and also optimizing your application materials to maximize your chances of admit. One thing that impresses the adcoms is ‘impact’ try justifying it statistically wherever possible. With 6 years of experience, I am sure there would be several strong impactful projects which you can highlight in your application. You have also mentioned using technology for helping less fortunate people, do you have a plan for it? Or are there any examples you can share with the adcoms. This would help your profile stand out amidst the pool of applicants.

Hey Mani007,

Vashi here from LilacBuds.

You have a strong work experience with 6 years in Tech industry and a good GRE score which makes you a strong applicant for your target schools. But your GPA of 6.11/10 is a little on the lower end and will be a concern for these schools. What were the reason for the same? This needs to be elaborated in your essays or put it in perspective on what was the class average or where you stood in percentile wise.
You also need to make sure that your application essays reflect your strong professional experience and take into consideration your leadership skills. Do make sure that your post-MBA goals are clearly depicted in your application essays and how each specific school will be critical in helping you achieve the same. Reach out to alums/ current students of these schools to know more about these programs. This will assist in the long run for your applications.
Keep in mind that R1 will be your best bet and if you plan to consider R2 as well then you can look towards improving on your score which will improve your chances as well.

Hello Precious. Stumbled on your profile coz we have similar profiles and it’s encouraging to see that you got admitted with that score. I have a score of 302 and That has been my major fear regarding applications. Just wanted to confirm- was it the 305 score that got you admitted? Or did you retake the test?

Hey bb, Thank you!! I didn't take it twice! I only took the Focus edition and that's what I put in but for some reason, it automatically shows Gmat Classic as well. I just gave the focus edition 2 weeks ago - never gave the Classic one. Maybe a mistake I made?

Hey , @LynMBee

With a strong 7.8 years of experience across diverse industries like tourism and fintech, your profile offers a unique blend of skills and perspectives valued by top MBA programs. Your GPA further demonstrates your academic capabilities. Since you're aiming for a career shift into tech, focus on showcasing transferable skills in your application. Quantify your achievements and highlight any tech-related skills acquired in previous roles.

Clearly highlight your post-MBA goals in tech, specifying your target role and how the MBA will equip you for success. Remember, a strong GRE score can further solidify your application. Research each program's curriculum, career resources, and alumni network to find the best fit for your aspirations. Both tech-focused programs like Haas and Kellogg and general MBA programs with strong tech placement, like Fuqua and McCombs, are excellent options for you. By strategically highlighting your transferable skills, achievements, and goals, you'll be well-positioned to impress admissions committees and secure your spot in a top MBA program.

Hey @LynMBee
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. I hope you are doing well, speaking about your profile, your profile seems to have a strong academic background and with your experience in tourism and fintech, you have a solid foundation for an MBA. Your interest in tech consulting or product management positions within fintech or SaaS aligns well with your experience.

A 325+ GRE score will be crucial for your application. Your career goals are clear, but further defining your unique value proposition and how an MBA will accelerate your career path would strengthen your application. You should be prepared to answer ‘Why an MBA?’ and ‘Why that particular school/program?’ to the Adcoms.
Your experience in tourism is likely to involve customer interaction and problem-solving skills, which are transferable skills to consulting and product management, highlight that. Also, since you have around 8 years of experience, can you highlight specific instances of impact?

Keeping the same industry is a strong option.
If you are looking at consulting, consider Darden as well as other mid-tier programs that tend to be more generous with scholarships. I have been told by someone from Nigeria that scholarships are an important part even for a visa application. Which is really annoying. Not sure how accurate that is still but I have heard it multiple times.

You want the best score you can get for a scholarship.

Absolutely. This would indicate your international experience, Christ cultural adaptability and creative depth for your profile.

Hopefully there is a strong selection reason why you ended up in Europe.

PS. Bottom line is there are both passive and active benefits to living and working in a different country. INSEAD for example requires that you have international experience or otherwise they don’t really like applicants without any.

Your 5.5 years in consulting, clear goal to lead in sustainability, and target schools with strong consulting networks are strengths. Aim for a high GRE score to improve your application competitiveness and potentially qualify for scholarships. Leverage your 3.3 GPA and highlight sustainability-related projects in your essays—network with alumni for impactful stories. Consider specialized programs and use your consulting experience to address a potential experience gap. With a strong GRE, focused application, and strategic program selection, you can significantly increase your chances of admission to a top program, scholarship opportunities, and a successful career switch in sustainability consulting.

All the best :D

Hi @BMK2024
I am Priyanka, Client Manager at ARINGO. Speaking about your profile, having 5+ years under your belt in consulting for a top insurance company is a strong foundation. It's clear you have a vision for your future, aiming for a leadership role and potentially exploring sustainability consulting, a niche with growing importance across industries. While a 3.3 GPA is okayish, a high GRE score will be needed to strengthen your application. Fuqua and Goizueta are also fantastic choices known for their strong consulting programs.

Here's something interesting - did you know that Duke's Fuqua School of Business has a Center for Applied Global Finance? This center focuses on aligning financial decision-making with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations, which perfectly aligns with your interest in sustainability consulting. This could be a great talking point in your application, especially if you have any experience in this area within your current role.

You will need to highlight your leadership potential to pivot towards sustainability consulting in your essays and recommendations. Also HBS has changed its essays format, do have a look at that. - https://gmatclub.com/forum/changes-in-h ... 32120.html

For some additional context

Nigerian citizen, living and working in Germany for 5 years as an in/house management consultant (Digital transformation, post merger integration in Africa, and now on an externship / secondment as Executive Assistant to Global head of my consultancy)

BSC Computer science grad (grad 2015) GPA 3.28 out of 4.0
MSc in Innovation Management (grad 2020) , GPA 3.85 out of 4.0
GRE Target score: 320

Extracurriculars: I“m a cofounder of a startup that trains and mentors young African women who aspire to be data analysts. (SDG 4 and 5). I am also a member of climate Action Africa, focusing on sensitization and promoting climate adaptation for the worst affected communities in Nigeria (SDG 13). I was co-lead for social impact pro-bono consulting with NGOs at my consultancy

After 5 years of gaining general management skills, i want to go in for my MBA to prepare myself for a leadership role at my company while deepening my expertise in sustainability (energy &environment) and its impact on business.

My passion for sustainability comes from my father who owned a large paper conversion plant and had a tissue making company that eventually went bust for financial reasons. Nevertheless, he thought me the importance of reducing waste (electricity, food, paper, etc) from as early as 5 years old and would take some of my trash paper into his paper conversion company and his voice always stays with me. I saw how much he helped communities and as i forge my own path, i want to help businesses implement more sustainable practices and help reduce waste and inefficiencies within organizations. I also want to help organizations run programs where they give back and support disadvantaged communities.

Some questions.
Does the fact that i aready have a masters in management count against my application?
Do i stand a chance with HBS, GSB?
