Eli: According to many scientists the widespread production and use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)—e.g., to provide coolant for air conditioners—inevitably leads to their escape into the atmosphere where they destroy the vital ozone layer. In my opinion, the continued use of CFCs by humans is like a harmful habit, which, if unchecked, could have disastrous effects on the user, namely self-destruction. The obvious and necessary cure, therefore, is a complete ban on CFC production and use.

Mark: The cure you propose would kill, not save, the user. A ban on CFC production and use would cause the destruction of the air conditioning industry.

Stimulus states that Eli discusses the harmful effects of CFCs and the immediate ban on their use to save. Mark on the other states that the cure suggested by Eli i.e ban of CFC will hamper the air condition ..... Therefore they disagree on the cure suggested

IMO A

The source of Mark, and Eli’s dispute is their lack of agreement on which one of the following terms?

(A) cure

(B) user

(C) ban

(D) production

(E) destruction

It took me 30 seconds, I don't get what is so difficult about this question ? It is a straight forward argument and a clear option choice.

What was your thought process while selecting "user".

I chose "cure" because i thought that both Eli and Mark were arguing /having dispute on the consequences of the "cure".
Eli says the "cure" will help to protect ozone layer. Mark says the "cure" will destroy AC industry.

Kindly help.

So I would suggest you read the question again this time slowly and try to really understand the position of both individual's. Once you carefully read the stem you will recognise that Eli is claiming "continued use of CFCs by humans is like a harmful habit" and consequently the annihilation of the human species due to destruction of the ozone layer. Hence the "user" here are human beings who use CFC emitting products like AC's

Now coming to Mark, it clearly says in the argument that the "AC industry" will get destroyed, so Mark here is not concerned about the "human" (user) for him the subject is the AC industry/ That means they are not on the same page as to who is the "user" - Humans or AC industry.

Hence the answer is what it is, hope it helps!

Clear B. A is a trap choice. To understand why it's B, you have to read the last part of Mark's passage..."cause destruction of the air conditioning industry"...this is where he diverges from Eli who expresses a concern about humans in general.
