it - refers to an introductory course

(B) it is necessary to do large amounts Incorrect

changes meaning

(C) you need to do a lot Incorrect

you - wrong

(D) they all require large amounts Incorrect

SV error - an introductory course VS they all

(E) one requirement is a large quantity Incorrect

A LOT OF/ LOTS OF/ GREAT DEAL OF/ LARGE NUMBER OF
*A great deal of + uncountable singular
usage:
1)huge quality 3)uncountable noun
2)formal 4)as adverb
5) Not with units and measurements (yard,pounds,miles)
*A Large number of+countable plural

a lot of/ lots of can be used with both uncountable singular and countable plural however
*A lot of/ lots of + countable plural (verb should be plural)
eg. there ARE a lot of rules in English grammar.
*a lot of/ lots of + uncountable singular + (verb should be singular)
eg. there is a lot of sugar in this cup.
