30%-50%-100% ->First test-Average-Second test

Distance is 2-Average-5. So the ratio is 5:2

Alicia scored an A on 30% of her first g tests during the semester. Deciding to improve her grade, Alicia works hard and scores an A on each of her remaining h tests during the same semester. If Alicia scored an A on 50% of her tests over the entire semester, which of the following expresses the ratio of g to h?

Given, 0.3g*A +h*A = 0.5*(g+h)*A
or, 0.5*h = 0.2*g
so, g/h = 5/2. I think D. :)

g|___________avg|______________________h|
\(30\%........ 50\% ...................100\%\)
-------- 20------- -|----------------50--------------

by weighted average formula
\(\frac{g}{h} = \frac{100-50}{50-30} = \frac{50}{20} = \frac{5}{2 }\)

Total tests = g+h

Number of tests in which Alicia received A = .3g+h

In the whole semester Alicia received A in 1/2 of total tests

so, 1/2 = (.3g+h)/g+h

g+h = .6g+2h
.4g = h
g/h = 1/.4 = 5/2

IMO Option D

Correct Answer D

Alicia scored an A on 30% of her first g tests during the semester. Deciding to improve her grade, Alicia works hard and scores an A on each of her remaining h tests during the same semester. If Alicia scored an A on 50% of her tests over the entire semester, which of the following expresses the ratio of g to h?

No. of Test --------------------------------------g-----------------h
Score A in no. of test ------------------------30%--------------100%

At end of semester Scored A in half of test , 1/2 or 0.5= (0.3g + h)/(h+g)
g/h = 5/2

Let g be 100; that gives 30-->A
all the h are As-->h
30+h=50/100 (g+h)
h=g-60= 40.
Now g is 100; h is 40-->> g:h=5:2

According to the question, in 30% of the first g tests and in the remaining h tests, A-grade obtained. Thus,

(0.3g + h)/(g+h) = 0.5
5/2 = g/h

IMO option D is the answer.

From the first statement we know that Alicia scored in 30% of first g tests
So she scored an A in 0.3g tests
She scored an A on each of h tests
So total number of tests = h+g
Total no of A = 0.5(h+g) (Alicia scored 50% of her tests over the entire semester)
From the above information we can conclude:
0.3g + h = 0.5(h+g) —— (equating the no. of tests in which she scored A)
Solving the above equation we get:
g/h = 5/2

So the answer will be D
