I have not seen big transformation for the IR to DI. Large lead it seems the questions are mostly similar. It seems it has gotten cleaned up and much more structured but I have to admit that just like everyone else, I was not paying much attention to the integrated reasoning section in the past.

There is a dedicated data insights guide that you can purchase if you need data insights practice questions. It doesn’t have any of them in the book however, it will all be in the online question bank.

PS. I have not gone comparing old IR to New DI too carefully.

Engineer1 wrote:
bb Could you throw more light on the DI section? Is IR from classic GMAT true representation of Focus DI (I know Quant DS is part of DI now)? It does not seem worth buying OG 2023-24 yet, from this thread. Maybe just the GMAT prep focus practice tests can be bought. Also, questions that are marked as GMAT Prep (focus) on GMAT Club Forum quiz - Are they from the practice tests?

It appears that I will have to retake after my Classic GMAT attempt yesterday. My official mocks were 680. 640. 680. 690 and I ended up with low 600 / Q45 (While I feel extremely annoyed and dejected, I need to re-focus and re-prepare and it pains). I hadn't really prepared for IR and did not even think of a retake. : /

Thank You!

That's almost all I'm saying. Improvements in vocab are useful in real life.

BTW, the words in the GRE's vocab-based questions are not particularly obscure. They are words one can expect to encounter anyway. So asking for a complete GRE word list is almost like asking for a list of words one may encounter while reading or watching TV.

That assumes I watch TV in English  - as someone who did not or does not, I felt the best option was to read fiction or books in English but chasing every word I did not know was very time consuming.
Thinking about it, if GRE has just regular common words, why do they even bother?

The words are not common in all levels of writing. They are common in editorial pages of newspapers, in serious publications, and in academic writing, which graduate students will have to read.
See, for example, this recent book review in the New York Times: "Rescuing the Holocaust From Distortion and Cliché" (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/31/book ... stone.html)

Anyway, this is all off-topic! I liked Sentence Correction, mainly because it was the quickest and easiest question type. I just don't think it had much real-world utility.

Well, it's February 1st and I feel relieved, because there is only one version of the GMAT left to teach.

I would like to give a quick shout-out / GMAT Club welcome to Hank_McElroyTutor, who recently achieved (and verified!) the highest GMAT Focus score I've yet seen privately or publicly: 775 (100%) with Q90, V90, and DI85—which of course would have been a perfect 800 on the recently retired GMAT classic.

Instead, Hank will have to settle for "only" a 100th percentile GMAT Focus score.

Here's his debrief: https://gmatclub.com/forum/775-gmat-focus-debrief-425301.html#p3346342

If anyone is interested in private tutoring with Hank, then please let me know.  His hourly rates are significantly less than mine, and are competitive with the rates of other popular GMAT prep companies.

There was a lot of discussion above about "logic-based" DS, as well as the differences between OG 2022 and OG 2023-2024

I realized that 11 NEW "logic-based" DS questions (Criteria, Comparisons, Graphs/Tables, Verbal Reasoning, etc.) were added to the OG 2024 online question bank, sometime between June and October.

I just posted a list of problems and video solutions for these 11, as well as a comparison/analysis of OG22 vs. 2024 here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/11-new-og-lo ... l#p3349238

Here's the problem links:

For OG 2022 vs. OG 2024, one important thing to note is that 76 IR-style questions were added (150 questions, instead of 74), plus 131 in the Data Insights guide.

Also, as discussed in this thread, about half of the DS questions were removed, with the Focus Edition focusing heavily on word problems. Details are attached below; the categorization is based on GMAT Club tags.

Great catch, Ben! And thanks for posting / organizing the new questions.

How sneaky of GMAC to release these 11 "logic-based DS" aka "Verbal DS" questions months after the books were initially published.

I am not a fan of Multi socurce reasoning and they have been taking enormous amount of time. I have hardly paid attention to them during Classic GMAT prep. Now, from this thread, I found out that typically 4 MSR questions show up on the DI section. How wise (or dumb) is it to skip MSRs in the exam altogether (skip = guess answers, move on, and save time)? I am not usually in favor of really skipping any topic completely, but MSRs are not at all helping me and my overall performance detoriorates as a result. Any insight is highly appreciated.

Have you tried this strategy on Mock test? I plan to try it.

Looking forward to hearing the result of this strategy from you.

GMAT Focus heavily penalizes wrong answers compared with classic version. Sure, giving it a try on mock is a great idea but please be aware that it is fully possible you get two sets of MSR with 3 questions each meaning there is a chance you get 6 MSR questions on real test and only 3 in the mock test which could really play spoiler !!!

GMATNinja I am going through your DI videos. They are hands down thorough.
GMATNinja chetan2u Bunuel - But OG / DI Review of 2023-24 is new and I don't see the questions discussed on GMAT Club yet. Can you please arrange series of sessions to solve and explain the answers from OG / DI Review of 2023-24? I'm asking specifically for the Integrated reasoning questions, not for data sufficiency.

Re: GMAT Focus Edition - Everything You Need to Know [#permalink]
Does anyone know if the Executive Assessment will be updated to be aligned with the focus edition (i.e. no sentence correction or geometry)? If not, its basically two different exams right - studying for the EA before was almost the same as for the regular GMAT, in terms of content/syllabus, but that would not longer be the case?

Any recommendations for someone who studied for the original gmat, but now has to take the focus edition and is also interested in seeing how he performs in the EA?

Thanks!!

Hi rrc1996,

As far as I know, GMAC does not plan to update the EA, at least not anytime soon (they've publicly stated that the EA will continue in its current form for now).

If you've studied for the old GMAT, all the material you have should still be useful, and the new questions and tests available for the FE should help you prep for both the FE and the EA.

Hello!

Sorry, your query is not very clear.

If you are trying to ask about overlap in questions in our FE mocks and CE mocks, the answer is...

~70% overlap in Quant questions (hence, ~30% new questions)
~85% overlap in Verbal questions (hence, ~15% new questions)
~40% overlap in DI questions (hence, ~60% new questions)

There has been no change in our set of 110+ RCs in our material (mocks and exercises put together).
- Barring the nominal, regular updates we keep making across all question types.

We hope this helps.

All the best!
