Hi vikrantm,

Are you just starting out with your GMAT prep? If so, do you need some general advice regarding your study plan?

Where do I get GMAT online mock tests apart from gmac websites? Any suggestions or inputs would be really appreciated. Thanks

Hi vikrantm,

I suggest you to stick to the official ones because they are the closest to the official test. If you carefully plan your 6 official mocks, then they will be sufficient. It is not advisable to take many mocks. Take a mock only when you feel ready or when you feel that you have worked on the weaker areas identified in the previous mock.

Hi vikrantm,

While the most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, retaking a CAT that you've already taken is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills - since you will likely see some 'repeat' questions that you have already faced. Unfortunately, seeing even a couple of repeats can 'throw off' the Scoring Algorithm and impact your pacing, energy levels, fatigue, etc. (meaning that they would likely all appear to be better than they actually are). Thankfully, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion).

From your post, it's not clear how long you've been studying, so before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hi, Vikrant! I had purchased the MGMAT bundle of 6 Mock tests, & used only 3 of them.
If you want, I can give you my credentials on a discount. DM me if you want. Happy to help :)

Dear experts,

I have a couple of things to ask.

1. I'll be retaking my GMAT in October. So when I register, do I get the 2 free practice tests again? If yes, then will the questions repeat?

I had taken first attempt in January 2020 but I didn't buy the 4 extra tests, so is there any chance of the questions getting updated or will I encounter repeat questions?

2. Should I buy tests from Manhattan Prep or Veritas apart from these official tests? Or simply buy the extra 4 tests and bet my money on the new set of questions that I'll get in the new 4 tests?

How should I go about it? Please guide me.

Well I don't think you should make another GMAC account with the same information you used earlier in your existing GMAC account. If you want to repractice the ceased two free mocks, You can reset them but it won't be of any help. Getting rest 4 is of major use than repeating the exhausted two.

Mgmat and veritas mocks are way good in their own way. While Veritas is close to GMAT, Mgmat is not lagging behind but is slightly difficult. You can get any of these you prefer. Veritas offer 7 and there are 6 Mgmat mocks.
Plus you can also redeem your Gmat Club premium bundle for Veritas CAT. Its another way you can get veritas mocks.

Hi Nups1234,

I think buying the 4 official tests is a good idea. And if you plan properly 4 mock tests should be enough. I recommend you to take your mocks carefully. Make you there's a considerable gap between the two mocks and you work on the mistakes done in the previous mock before taking a new one. Start taking mocks only when you feel confident that you are strong enough with all the concepts and methodology. If you need any help in planning your studies and taking the mocks, you can get in touch with and discuss the same over a call.

My recommendation is
1) COnsider buying Manhattan as they are the best practice for both quant and Verbal tests. Please not that Manhattan gives final score on conservative side so be ready for disappointments.
2) Veritas is great for Quant but it's not equally good for Verbal. The scoring pattern of Veritas is best in industry.
3) buying 4 official tests can certainly add value to your testing exercise. But keep it optional.

I hope this help!

Hi Nups1324,

While the most realistic CATs available are the 6 from GMAC, retaking a CAT that you've already taken is NOT a realistic way to assess your skills - since you will likely see some 'repeat' questions that you have already faced. Unfortunately, seeing even a couple of repeats can 'throw off' the Scoring Algorithm and impact your pacing, energy levels, fatigue, etc. (meaning that they would likely all appear to be better than they actually are). The 'pool' of questions that comes with each CAT is limited, meaning that if you retake either of the 2 free Official CATs, then there's a good chance that you will see some questions that you have already faced. Thankfully, the CATs from Kaplan, MGMAT and Veritas are all 'close enough' to the real thing that they will provide you with a relatively realistic score assessment (assuming that you correctly take the CAT in a realistic fashion) - so you can use any NEW CATs from any of those sources next.

That all having been said, each CAT is really a 'measuring device' - when used correctly, it will give you a realistic score and help define your strengths and weaknesses, but it will NOT help you to fix any of those weaknesses. To raise your scores, you have to learn the necessary Tactics and put in the proper practice and repetitions. The CAT will show you whether your studies are helping you to improve or not. In addition, the process of taking (and reviewing) a CAT requires a significant amount of energy and effort - and takes time to 'recover' from. This is one of the reasons why you typically shouldn't take more than 1 CAT per week - and your last CAT should be taken about 1 week before Test Day. Going forward, you really shouldn't take more than 1 FULL CAT per week.

With a Test Date in October, you only have a limited timeframe left to study, so we have to consider your timeline and goals when planning out your remaining study time:

1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks so far and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
