Hello,

Can anyone please help answer the following questions -

1. Can I give an offline exam within a week of giving the online one?
2. Is the 16 day gap mentioned on the website only valid for online exams? Or even the two offline exams need to be given with the same gap?

Thanks !

I had booked my GMAT Online Enhanced exam and for my Examity profile I had uploaded a scanned copy of my passport and Examity approved of it as well and I booked my date. When I started my test the proctor was verifying my identity and made me wait for 15 mins or so and said they can't give the test because I didn't upload a photo and uploaded a scanned copy instead. I showed them my passport and told them that I could update it right now since I have it and they said I will have to make another appointment. I mentioned that they approved it on their system so why bring it up now - all she said was she was sorry and I need to contact GMAC for a refund and booking details.

This is extremely frustrating as my last center exam also got canceled due to the COVID surge in India. I have dropped them an email and tried calling multiple office numbers but some are invalid and the China team had no input to share. I'll try to call the US office later today as well to get a confirmation on if I can book my next date sooner than 16 days and hopefully get a refund for this since I was not aware and they had plenty of time to inform me since I uploaded this data almost a month ago.

I have also finished all OG material and mocks and am really unsure what to practice with next. It would be great to know in case anyone else also faced a similar issue and received a refund, which number can I contact for a sooner response than their customer care email? Has anyone been able to book the next date sooner than 16 days if they never attempted the exam itself? What should my next steps of prep be?

Hi everyone! Wanted to share my debrief of the online exam I did on Saturday 5th, hopefully it will be of help:

- I used a Mac with Catalina 10.15. As reported earlier in this thread, a week before the test I was unable to launch the secure browser, since I got an error message saying something similar to 'the developer isn't known', which scared me at the time. After asking here, it was clarified that it was the expected behaviour
- On the day of the exam, the 'Launch Exam' link appears in the mba . com website. I could see it approximately 30 minutes before my scheduled time, but I clicked on it when my exam was due in 15 minutes (which supposedly was when the link would become available)
- In the Examity page, you'll be asked to answer one of your pre-defined questions, as well typing your names (these two steps are the ones you fill in the Examity registration process)
- I don't remember the exact details, but in the Examity page a link will appear where you will be connected to the proctor. In my case, it prompted me to download GoToMeeting (no idea if it was a regular version, or a specific one). The program will ask for some permissions, and then you'll be able to speak to and hear the proctor. Some of the permissions made me restart GoToMeeting, but it was quick and automatic
- The proctor will be able to see and control your screen. My proctor was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding the Mac menus (I'm not), and whenever I was required to do/show something, he would (for example) tell me "click on the XX menu at your top left, then look at the icon at the 2nd row and 3rd column". So he actually guided me when he asked for a specific instruction (like showing active tasks). My computer was in Spanish and he would specify the menus/where to click in English, but ultimately I made the clicks
- The proctor will need to enter a password before launching the exam. In my case it was a bit problematic, because he put a wrong password twice (as he typed, I wouldn't see what he was writing, as it only showed 'dots' instead of characters), which made the situation a bit stressing. I don't recall if he or I suggested it, but he asked me to change my language settings to add 'English (Indian)' as my main computer language (he guided me each step), and then his password worked fine
- I don't remember if it was before or after entering his password, but the proctor will read the exam's instructions, and you can ask him about any doubts. After he told me I couldn't have electronic devices in the room, I asked if I could keep my phone out of reach, as an internet connection backup. He asked me if I could take it out of the room, and in case there were any issues, he/I would just speak aloud and try to troubleshoot it
- When I agreed to the rules and terms, the proctor was ready to launch the exam. However, when he first tried, I had the same error with the Secure Browser as I did before (unknown developer). When I translated the error to the proctor, he guided me to the Settings, where I had to give permissions to the Browser. After doing this, I was able to launch the exam
- Overall, despite a couple of issues, I had the impression that the proctor would be able to troubleshoot most of the problems one would face
- During the test, I didn't experience any lag. During my breaks, if I wanted to leave the room, I let the the proctor know (he answered me immediatly), and I had to show my whiteboard before leaving. When I returned, I had to show my whiteboard again and also show a 360 view of my room (I have a laptop) and a view of below my desk. It's a quick process, but it can take a couple of minutes of your breaks
- In my case, the Quant section was similar in difficulty to the official mocks (perhaps slightly more difficult). However, I also took the former online version during May, and in that occasion I found Quant much, much harder than the official mocks (scores breakdown at the end of this post). In the Examity version, Verbal was similar to the mocks, except for the RC passages, which I found considerably tougher

My scores in the official mocks / tests were:
Mock 1: 680 (Q45/V38)
Mock 2: 710 (Q46/V41)
Mock 3: 710 (Q49/V38) -> Using whiteboard and without a break between Q and V, simulating the Online Pearson Exam
Official Online 1 (Pearson): 660 (Q43/V38) -> Found Quant much, much harder than previous mocks. Perhaps there was a little of nervousness too, but I consider that the exam was harder
Mock 4: 710 (Q46/V42) -> A few days after my Official Exam, without further study
Official Online 2 (Examity): 700 (Q47/V38)

So overall my second online exam was a bit lower than my mocks scores, but within their range. Was expecting to score a bit higher in Verbal to be honest, but I don't think I did too well in RC. I would've preferred to take the test in a Test Center, but there's only one in my country, and it's closed due to lockdowns. I would recommend people in similar situations to take the Online version.

Yes, you can mix and match Online and Regular GMAT however you wish. Different types of tests are independent of each other but 2 online tests can only be taken 16 days apart and the same for 2 regular tests at the test center - they can only be taken 16 days apart.

Hi mgmz123,

Sorry about your experience. That's super annoying. Very strange that they require a photo. Interesting! Good to know I guess... but agree with you, weird that they did not flag it previously.

As to the next steps, it will take 48 hours for the GMAC system to update and fully cancel your appointment. You will then receive a voucher that you can use to reschedule your test.
It seems it takes about 5 business days based on the other user experience. Most people don't hear back about the requests for the refund/cancelation/etc, they just an email with the voucher, so not sure how much you need to bug them or worry about it or if it will happen automatically.

You should not need to wait 16 days.
As to the next steps, I would stay fresh and crisp and keep practicing and working on questions, reviewing your checklists and keeping all the small things in your memory. Since it will likely be 7 days until you can take the test, I would plan to take a CAT perhaps a few days before your test to stay in shape. You can take any of them - official/unoficial/etc. The goal at this point not to check your score but to keep working on your timing, your approaches, etc.

Good Luck!

I also copied your debrief to the Share GMAT Experience forum: https://gmatclub.com/forum/700-q47-v38- ... 60543.html

P.S. Interesting your Q and V Flipped flopped like that. Any idea why? (well, you mentioned quant was more normal and standard)

Thank you for your response - knew I would hear sooner from you than GMAT! :)

Do you have any recommendations on which mock is the closest for practice, I am thinking I will take 1/2 of the free CATs available from Kaplan/Veritas? Also do we have any subscription method for gmatclub mocks for 1/2 weeks only and not for 3 months? I did some on Memorial day and found them to be helpful also extended my access using the youtube subscription method already but wasn't able to use it was the run-up to the final exam and didn't want to do too many new things but now since I have some time I'd like to practice those mocks as well.

Thanks so much tomasppp for sharing your experience and great to hear your test went smoothly!

...

P.S. Interesting your Q and V Flipped flopped like that. Any idea why? (well, you mentioned quant was more normal and standard)

No worries, it was the least I could do as a thank you. The forum was a big help in reviewing many question's answers and explanations. Reading other debriefs in this topic was also super helpful.

Regarding my scores, I think my Q range was in 46 - 49 (in a good day). I attribute my score in the first Online Exam (Q43) to a tougher exam and a bit of bad luck in what it threw at me. It was (sadly) a possible outlier, and there was an unusual amount of questions to which I didn't have a clue. So my Q47 in the second Online Exam was within the possibilities.

Regarding V, I was a bit disappointed with my score (V38). I had scored 38 before, but once in my first ever mock and later in the two tests were I had no break between the two sections. In the second Online Exam I knew I didn't do well in two of the RC passages so I wasn't incredibly surprised with the score, though I thought I was around a V40 because I felt I was doing well in SC.

Overall, I'm completely certain I could've done better (I assume it's the general feeling around here) and I'm a bit sad about that, but on the brighter side, my score is still in the range of what I initially thought I could achieve considering my study plan, and should be a decent one for the schools I'm planning on applying.

PS: Although my experience with Examity was mostly smooth, I still had a couple of mini heart attacks when the proctor's password failed. I think I ended up starting my test 20 minutes later than it was scheduled. I wasn't extremely troubled and was able to focus once the test started, but understandably some people may freak out when experiencing a couple of errors in the check-in process. Hopefully my and other's experiences posted in this topic will help to troubleshoot / keep calm through the process

Hi bb,

I am planning to give the online gmat soon. However, I have a windows 10 'home'. The system requirements mentioned by GMAC say windows 10 'professional'. Will I have a problem if i use the windows 10 home?

Adding to my post. It seems the only way is to first make an account on mba.com, click on Register for GMAT Online, it redirects to examity , fill in required details and then check appointment availability.

Interesting that GMAC mentioned Windows professional as a requirement. I missed that piece of information.

You need the professional version to be able to launch the secure browser before the GMAT online session (to test it) but it seems everyone’s able to launch it during the session so it’s an odd requirement. It’s a good question to ask to the GMAC. I will add it to my list for Tue.

I think they have mentioned that it is recommended and not required. It says Windows 7 or below doesn't work so I guess home edition works fine?

Hey bb & mgmz123,

I agree that gmat says 'recommended'. However, if there is certain clarity for the same it will be better. If you click the link provided below it says that the minimum requirement is windows 7 professional and recommended is windows 8 & 10 professional. No where is windows 'home' mentioned.
This worries me since there are no dates available in the centre nearest to my house

Hey bb,

I just wanted to check if you had a rough idea on how long can GMAC take to respond? I have called them multiple times now and they have picked up twice. On Friday they said I would hear on Monday and yesterday they said I will hear on Tuesday..I am starting to get a little worried..

Good Luck!
