You are spot on about the timeline of price increase. In the email it has been mentioned that this increase is first in 15 years.

Yes, esp since they have increased change fees just 4 months ago. What did the email say by the way? Did it say that they did a lot of research and this change was as the result of the test-taker requests?

Coaching institutes are also going to increase fees. Exams also. Everything has become too commercial on this planet.

I don't think so and I would suggest you don't sign up with any place that calls itself a coaching institute in the first place. :tongue_opt2

once in 2 years GMAC does bring some change or another ... I think this change of fee is still okay than a change in exam pattern :) .. fingers crossed :|
Don't know what could be the reason for this hike ? It could be that With the acceptance of GRE and Executive GMAT in B school GMAC might have assumed that there could be a fall in no. of GMAT exam taker in near future so probably ,not to take hit on revenue hence price hike in exam.. it's my take.. nevertheless change is always good. :| :|

To heck with these people. They are so commercial. I wish this were a government organization. Plus making you pay in US$ is a boost to American economy certainly.

Just my views.

Well, I sort of agree. And just because you mentioned your views I will mention mine too and this is not to do with GMAT.

I hate how they let you apply for VISAs (Tourist and other) and then reject your visa and then offer you no refund.

And then you can just keep doing this over and over again.

First, It would be fine but you have to look at the scale of it. Look at thousands of people outside Consulate every day in every 15 minutes slot applying for some or the other VSIA.

Second, I understand if they start issuing those thousands of VISAs then eventually those many people will come to USA and then immigration issues begin.

Meh, I don't know. It sucks!

GMAC is a not for profit organization. It is private but it’s not commercial.

I do have to say this is the strangest comment I’ve seen here for a while about someone wishing GMAT was run by the government.... Things are not usually cheaper than they are run by the government but they could be subsidized which means someone else is paying for it. The only way to drive the price down is to bring in more competition which is what GRE is doing and you’re welcome to take the GRE.

PS. I’m not defending their price increase especially since GRE is about half the price of the GMAT but increasing a price by 10% in 10 - 15 years is not even keeping up with inflation. They would have to raise the price by 30-40% to keep up with inflation.

I also find it odd that there is only 7 days of notice... GMAC seems to not provide refunds even within this short of a window. It’s generally appropriate to give like 30 days of notice or even more so people could plan ...
