Re: GMAT timer [#permalink]
I chance upon this thread when I was looking for ways to manage my time during the actual test because I think that that is the most neglected part of my exam preparation.

I just wanted to show appreciation and say thanks! This would definitely come in useful in pacing myself throughout the practice tests,.

Do you use this when you are taking the practice exam or just whenever you practice GMAT questions?

I used timer whenever I practiced. What was payoff? I felt very confident as I could solve/guess any problem under 1 min, in 2 min or in any time I wanted.

I see. Thanks for telling me the payoff. I will start doing it that way then.

Re: GMAT timer [#permalink]
walker, I LOVE the timer! I've been using my watch/pen/paper to record everything that this wonderful program could do for me.

I'm studying for my CPA and would like other features like changing the # of questions, changing the amount of time, and exporting the data to an excel spreadsheet.

I was wondering what you used to make it? I'm rusty on MS Visual Studio and tried to recreate a similar timer for my own use, but I have no idea how to set up a timer/counter. If you made it on Visual Studio, could you send me the project file or source so I could tweak it for my own personal use? I have no plans to distribute it (except maybe, with your permission, to another CPA forum similar to this one?).

Thanks :)

I did all what you say (changing #, time/questions, export) in GMAT ToolKit (iPhone/iPod Touch). I created 2 years ago the timer for Windows using Delphi (Code Gear) but now I don't remember almost all about language and need to install SDK. I hope to find time to do improvements but maybe a bit later (a lot of interesting work and school).

Anyway, I keep your recommendations in mind. Thanks

Re: GMAT timer [#permalink]
Hi Walker,

I seem to have discovered a bug in the Timer program.
While taking a mock test, I noticed that remaining TIME section showed a weird value >1400:00.
As I was seriously engrossed in the test, I didn't really notice the condition that might have triggered this bug. I've also not been able to replicate the issue again.
Notice in the timing log below indicates that the problem occurred while registering the timing of the 15th question.
1 A 01:04
2 A 01:56
3 D 00:49
4 A 00:42
5 D 01:11
6 A 00:59
7 E 01:52
8 D 04:19
9 B 00:41
10 E 01:22
11 B 02:10
12 D 01:35
13 C 03:22 doubt
14 B 02:14
15 D 0-1437:0-24 doubt
16 E 01:18
17 B 02:52 doubt

I'm afraid that's all the information I have for now. Will update you when i find something else.

Sorry, I can't say any useful about that. Maybe your computer is too modern for the application...

like 'anil4410', i have had the same problem. I don't know why but sometimes the timer does show a weird figure. It has happened on many occasions to me. Moreover, when such a problem happens , the average time and the pace show crazy figures as well.

What OS do you use and what hardware do you have? Did you see any pattern in weird numbers or just random?
Thanks for feedback!

Re: GMAT timer [#permalink]
Hi Walker!

I have Windows XP in my laptop (HP). Let me tell you that this problem doesn't happen all the time. So, on most of the occasions I would see no weird numbers. But yes it does happen sometimes.

Also, I don't see any pattern in it. What I can say is that it happens when I click the answer choices ( A,B,C,D,E ). The important thing to note is that only 3 figures go crazy.
1st: Average Time
2nd: Pace
3rd : Time taken to answer the question that I clicked.

Except for these 3 figures all other figures show correct timings.
I would also like to tell you that when I say weird figure, it means a figure consisting 6 digits.

Thanks!
