I'll just point out that I applied to 8 schools and spent less than other peeps on here who applied to only 4-5 :)

On a per-school basis you are on the cheaper side. Of course nothing beats bostonsparky's $880 total, but it seems like the avg. per school is $600-700 each. On the other end of the scale is ninkorn, who managed to spend over $900 per school - earning him the Paris Hilton award for profligate spending.

$0 gmat prep (work covered the GMAT prep class + books)
$250 gmat exam
$235 HBS app
$250 Stanford app
$0 Official Transcripts (school does it for free)
$0 Stanford visit (combined it with a work trip)
$0 HBS interview costs (got ride, stayed with friends)
$2.50 Stanford interview costs (subway ride)
$100 Recommender gifts

$837.50 Total, but only for 2 schools... bostonsparky spent around the same and got more bang (6 schools) for his buck!

Still very well done. After getting your Harvard MBA I can think of oh, 3 or so auto companies that could seriously use someone like you in charge.

After the entire process... well over four grand. These guys really wring you dry. And they don't even pay for your travel/accommodation on admit weekend! Psh.

I think I did it for pretty cheap.

GMAT Prep: $0 (borrowed MGMAT Books from a friend)
GMAT: $250
Cornell App: $200
Michigan and Yale App: $0 (Teach For America Fee waiver)
Cornell Visit: $290 (stayed with friends)
Yale Visit: $270 (stayed with firends)

$1010. Granted, I probably earn half of what most people on this site do, so it still hurt. Still have Ross admit weekend to pay for, which will hit me fore $550. Sigh.
