Hello everyone,

I have slow improvement in reading and I have to take the GMAT test in about 1 month.

I have tried to brief ideas, skim and scan but still got only 1/3 or 1/2 answers right.

Can you give me pieces of advice how can I improve my reading skill.

How high is the score that you are aiming for?
So you want to improve RC? How about other parts of Verbal section?

About 40 - 42 but I read too slowly :( Do you have any advice?

I see that about SC and CR, I can make it in time

Hi minhnhat3009,

Here are my two cents:

1. Practice: Do 3-4 RCs every day.

2. Reading: Read one hour every day.

3. Familiarity with topics: Out of the RCs you did, if you find that the topics were unfamiliar to you then READ Articles related to them. This will help you the next time you see an RC relating to any of those topics.

4. Sources: Do RCs from official sources & MGMAT.

5. Learn the tricks: OG has best explanation for RC questions. Once you're done reading every word from those explanations, you'll know how answers choices tricks us.

Hope this would help you :)

I would recommend against reading non RC material in hopes it will improve your RC score. When casually reading articles such as The Economist, which I've seen recommended on these forums several times, you will drift into casual reading mode as if you were reading a novel. I think this time could be better spent doing something else.

The RC section requires a different type of reading in which you are closely paying attention to each paragraph and assessing its role in the overall structure of the passage.

I spent a considerable amount of time reading scientific magazines and business articles early in my studies but found it did not help me at all. The best practice is to do as many official RC's (ones from any of the OGs or from GMAT prep) as possible. At least that is my recommendation based off my 3 months of studying.

Good luck

Can I ask the way you read/ do reading exercises? Do you mean after completing each passage you will read again and again to be more familiar to GMAT style?
