Why cant we multiply 10 * 6 * 4 =240 meters first and then multiply 240 with centimeters? :beat

If a rectangular room measures 10 meters by 6 meters by 4 [#permalink]
Quicker approach, step by step:

1) Volume in meters: 6 x 10 x 4 = 240 m³

2) 1 m = 100 cm = 10² cm
... so substitute "1 m = 100 cm" into 240 m³ and multiply

3) 240 m³ = 240 * (100)³
240 m³ = 240 * (10²)³
240 m³ = 240 * 10 ^ 6

so 240 m³ = 240 PLUS 6 zeroes
240 m³ = 240,000,000

Convert each side in Cm units: 1000 Cm, 600 cm, 400 cm

Volume: l*b*h = 1000*600*400 = 240,000,000

If a rectangular room measures 10 meters by 6 meters by 4 meters, what is the volume of the room in cubic centimeters? (1 meter=100 centimeters)

A. 24,000
B. 240,000
C. 2,400,000
D. 24,000,000
E. 240,000,000

Since 1 m^3 = 1000^3 cm^3 = 1,000,000 cm^3, the volume of the room, in cubic centimeters, is:

10 x 6 x 4 x 1,000,0000 = 240,000,000

Answer: E
