If x dollars were invested at 10% annual interest, which of the following, in terms of x, is the profit the investment will yield, in dollars, after a year?

A. 0.1x
B. 0.9x
C. x
D. 1.1x
E. 1.2x

invested amount = x

interest gained = 10 % of x

profit = 10/100 (x) = 0.1 X

The profit the investment yields is the interest earned. So, we can determine the amount of interest earned using the simple interest formula:

interest = principal x rate x time

interest = (x)(0.1)(1)

interest = 0.1x

Thus, the profit is 0.1x.

don't confuse profit with the total return:
profit would be 0,1x
while total return is 1,1x
