(1) -4x – 12y = 0
(2) |x| – |y| = 16

From stmt1: x = -3y. Hence, |-3y| + |y| = 32 or 4|y| = 32 or y = |8|
If, y = 8, x = -24, if y = -8, x = 24 and xy = -24*8. Sufficient.

From stmt2: 2|x| = 48 or |x| = 24 and |y| = 8. Insufficient as xy can be 24*8 or -24*8.

you're right..i dropped the abs value signs too early when adding the two equations..should be A
