Hello everyone,
Im really interested in INSEAD's MBA program, however i have many concerns about my academic backgroud, to be more specific my undergrad
My GPA is 3.62
My GMAT score is 770
4 years of work experience in investment banking
CFA charterholder
My profile may not look bad, but my undergrad scores are really bad, even though i have a 3.62 GPA but it only happened after repeating 2 F's and 2 D's.. i have been really lazy during the first 3 semesters but I did compensate it within the last 5 semesters by scoring almost straight A's in my courses. Do the the F's and D's i have in my transcript effect my chances? Especially that in our university we were allowed to repeat upto 12 credits of courses.
Dude I had similiar concerns a year ago, or perhaps 6 months back when I was working on my INSEAD application, hence I can connect with your query. Good acads, and work exp, but faltered in the academic juncture for a brief bit, but came out well at the end of it..
If you have a good work experience ( preferably some international exposure), and great essays to write , I think your work exp ,GPA and GMAT score should have you covered well. I dont even think that you need to be apologetic about failing initially, because you already did well in the repeat exams and you dont need to drive your application reviews attention to something which you have already improved on . Because even if the application reviewer notices a repeat course and sees an A, it speaks well for your credentials. So many students take up on PRE MBA courses to make up for their grades, and it helps them get admitted. You already have the grades in order, so dont worry.
Again none of us know why were selected, or what makes our application tick. You will see candidates with higher GMAT scores than yours , and higher GPA, great work exp with Fortune 500 companies being rejected and someone with not a great pedigree in your eyes making it. I dont think anyone can give you a reasonable advice on whether you will make it even if you had all A's in your first attempt. At this juncture, you are competitive candidate with your scores and work exp looking equal or higher than what aplicants have at INSEAD. If you sell yourself well and have compelling reasons to join INSEAD, and can put your reasons across in words ; your a good contender. Instead of working on stories that will justify your D's and F's, research INSEAD and know why you want to be there. It will be a more fruitful endeavor in the long run. Thats my advice to you.
