Any info or advertisment mail from INSEAD or their monthly bulletin is not the most welcome this week!
Such a mail can result in a heart attack... (exaggerating a bit)

In order to cope with the wait, I started freshening my French so I can sit an A2 or B1 exam in December and also working on a project of mine (charity related entrepreneurial idea, if it works it will help a lot of people and give me a strong background, if not, I will have learned a lot) plus got a new gf. So no time left to worry a lot about the adcom decision.

Since waiting is killing me, I am reflecting on some numbers which confuse me.

There is a total of 15 Italians in 12J class.
According to the statistics reported on this forum, 14 Italians have already been admitted in R1 for 12D class.

I assume that, since the deadline for paying the 5000 EUR fee is already passed, those 14 Italians reported by MBAConnect have actually accepted a seat in 12D (i.e. they will not withdraw).

If we assume that nationality distribution does not change much between 12J and 12D classes, does INSEAD plan to admit only 1 Italian in both Round 2 & 3?

How would you explain this situation? Am I thinking too much? :-)

You are overthinking it way too much. Just because people have put in the 5000 doesnt necessarily mean they will all show up. I think they have extended offers this year in R1 on the expectation of more pullouts. Have you noticed the complete lack of movement on the INSEAD D12 waitlist thread? Last year the waitlist was moving already.

- considering the overall cost of the MBA and lost income, 5000 is not a huge some to forego. Jan intake is out of cycle with US B schools, but people do try out for US schools even after getting an INSEAD admit if they want to roll the dice and are really keen to go to a US school.

- the economy is in the crapper every where; particularly Europe. Not everyone may turn up for various reasons - lack of funding, not wanting to go to school before another recession hits the world. In a mere one year at INSEAD odds of things turning around are even lower.

Someone mentioned in one of the previous post that the count on MBA connect has not changed even after the deadline for paying 5k. I find hard to assume that all those admitted in first deadline have paid their deposit. So may be MBA connect reflects the number of students offered admission rather than the number of students who accepted the offer and paid 5k.

IMHO, except maybe French, Americans and Indians, no one should read too much into the MBA Connect numbers. Instead of 15, they could admit, say, 22 Italians this time.

But then, this is the week to read too much into everything :-)

I am an indian :-) Hence I am worried. INSEAD have already admitted 40 in first round. So I guess no more than 15 in this round.

whether they have paid the deposit or not - they seem to have made more offers in R1 than last year...

strangely, as I wait for the R2 final decision to come out I am quite relaxed. If I get into INSEAD: fine. if not: I apply to US schools. In a way I feel 2 years may not be as bad if there is bad 'economic' weather and a financial hurricane hits next year. I have graduated once in the past at a time when the economy was terrible... you can never predict these things but if karma chooses not to let me go with INSEAD, it may be a blessing in disguise... lets see how the coming week plays out. I fiduciam in fide as they say in Latin.

Same here Sachintendua...even i am worried mate....It has never happened in any of the batches before..I was just checking the Sept 2011 admits at this stage of the admissions and to my astonishment total intake on MBA connect just before the R2 final decisions was 190....for Jan 2011 batch it was around 220...I cant believe the stats this year....Never before this has happened that the total number of R1 admits + R1 Waitlisters admitted at this stage has exceeded 220 ( total no of indians varying between 22-28)...and now its 41 already...

Is INSEAD planning to increase the batch size or are they going to surprise this years R2 applicants ? I cant accept the reasoning that the quality of R1 applicants was far too better than R2 applicants....another possibility could be the large number of applications in R1 in Jan 2012 and lesser applicants in R2 but such a stark different from the mean is still not comprehensible....

All the BEst everyone :)
