I'm able to upload my essays but the word counter below each essay box doesn't work - don't know if I should be worried about that or not?

For the word counter to work make a left click on the X number you have, i.e. X out of 350 words maximum.

That didn't fix the word counter problem, i'm afraid. Any other ideas? Should I be concerned at all that its not working? I've uploaded my essays and checked the file that got uploaded, it has all my stuff in it.

Brobeedle- I hope you are using Adobe Reader 11. On it if you click on the "X" as mentioned above in the post, it should work. Else, I agree that I wouldn't be too bothered about it.

I have the same issue, my application has been submitted and the status says its 'posted'. But my referees have still not received any links to upload the recommendations. I have lodged a ticket with INSEAD IT for it to be resolved.

By emailing their service desk with a query or issue, a ticket is automatically lodged with the relevant IT dept depending on the issue.

The application for Jan 2015 intake is live now. Here are the essay questions:

Essay 1
Give a candid description of yourself (who are you as a person), stressing the personal characteristics you feel to be your
strengths and weaknesses and the main factors which have influenced your personal development, giving examples when
necessary. (600 words max.)

Essay 2
Describe the achievement of which you are most proud and explain why. In addition, describe a situation where you failed. How
did these experiences impact your relationships with others? Comment on what you learned. (400 words max.)

Essay 3
Tell us about an experience where you were significantly impacted by cultural diversity, in a positive or negative way. (300 words
max.)

Essay 4
Describe all types of extra-professional activities in which you have been or are still involved for a significant amount of time
(clubs, sports, music, arts, politics, etc). How are you enriched by these activities? (300 words max.)

Essay 5 (optional)
Is there anything else that was not covered in your application that you would like to share with the Admissions Committee? (300
words max.)

Time to put some effort on those essays. BTW they increased by 100 words each job essay, and also slightly changed them or re-arranged them. LT and ST career goals now has to be squeezed into the second job essay + describe career... really short space. Might it be that it's getting a lower weight? It seems they have tilted towards the "FIT" (diversity, cultural, international, etc.).

Briefly summarise your current (or most recent) job, including the nature of work, major responsibilities, and where relevant,
employees under your supervision, size of budget,clients/products and results achieved. What would be your next step in terms of
position if you were to remain in the same company? (350 words max.)

Please give a full description of your career since graduating from university. It should be written as if you were talking to
someone at a social gathering detailing your career path with the rationale behind your choices. Discuss your short and long term
career aspirations. (350 words max.)

Woww..that basically leaves very little space to explain career goals and why insead...that's a big change! good luck, guys...I am a recent admit (15J class), would be happy to answer any questions about app process if I can...

Dear Diver,

I absolutely agree with you, I am currently wading through the web of my thoughts while writing the essay for Jan 2015 intake.. I am also flummoxed by the absence of any mention of why MBA/Insead or career goals.. can you please advise as to where you see these topics fitting in ?

Hi guys, how is it going? :-D

I'm totally confused by the fact that two really important essays were removed  I mean essays for long/short term goals and how will Insead help... Where can we now explain "Why Insead"? I'm considering optional essay but not sure. Probably they assume that we need to place everything in job description essay but there is no so much place to be honest. What do you think?

Good luck for everyone, it's going to be a long way 8-)

Job description 2
Please give a full description of your career since graduating from university. It should be written as if you were talking to
someone at a social gathering detailing your career path with the rationale behind your choices. Discuss your short and long term
career aspirations.

They why INSEAD I think should be almost all over the essay answers.

where is the job description essay?

i have till now only seen the following 5 essay questions posted here on this forum -

words max.)

Are the job description essays posted separately?

Are the job description essays posted separately?

Yes, there they are:

Job description 1
Briefly summarise your current (or most recent) job, including the nature of work, major responsibilities, and where relevant,
employees under your supervision, size of budget,clients/products and results achieved. What would be your next step in terms of
position if you were to remain in the same company? (350 words max.)

Job description 2
Please give a full description of your career since graduating from university. It should be written as if you were talking to
someone at a social gathering detailing your career path with the rationale behind your choices. Discuss your short and long term
career aspirations. (350 words max.)

Job description 3 (Optional)
If you are currently not working or if you plan to leave your current employer more than 2 months before the programme starts,
please explain your activities and occupations between leaving your job and the start of the programme.

Does anybody know if admissions cares about "digital signatures" on the recommendations? One of my references notified me that she submitted my rec, but omitted the digital signing due to unfamiliarity with how to add one.

The digital signature is only required if the recommender needs to be notified when a copy of the recommendation is made to any other source.

"The contents of your recommendation will not be communicated to any person not involved in the admission process, nor to the

candidate. However, for certain loans or scholarships, a copy of the recommendation is required. Please tick the box below if you

wish to be contacted for copy authorisation. If you do not tick the box, then INSEAD will presume that you authorise a copy of the

recommendation to be made where the admissions staff judge it necessary."

I just submitted my application for round 1. Think about it this way. If they really wanted to know why mba/why insead/career goals, they would've asked that. they did ask that in previous years, but have kept it out this year - i think theres a reason for that. they want to know you as a person, and know who you really are and what drives you. i'm sure INSEAD knows you absolutely love the school and would do anything to attend. they made the change so that they can hear more real and authentic stories, as opposed to random name dropping and "i love INSEAD because...."

just my 2 cents. i haven't been invited to interview or anything yet, but I honestly think if they didn't ask those questions, they don't want to know. The only one area I would focus on is Career Goals - try to incorporate that somewhere in your essays. You can even get your recommender to talk about these areas, if you absolutely cannot fit them anywhere in your essays.

fingers crossed :D

It's just an interesting thought - I'm not an admit neither am I in any way smarter than any of you. But a lot of people have gotten into the psyche of having to convince the school Why INSEAD? Why an MBA now etc? And the questions this year have not a whole lot to do with convincing the school of that. The essays generally deal with one's personal story as such.

To top it off, there was an interesting case study done last year at INSEAD - the gist of which boils down to the fact that it's alright not to have all the answers before you start your MBA journey.

https://www.insead.edu/media_relations/press_release/2013_ten-years-after.cfm

That being said, it's definitely a great idea to strive for something.

I agree that INSEAD most likely wants to see more personal and interesting essays and moved away from the "why MBA/why INSEAD" question because most candidates were essentially saying the same thing (extolling the virtues of INSEAD's diverse student base, etc.) I'm pretty sure the topic will still come up in the interviews though.
