Today's the deadline for R2s, so the number will probably change significantly in the next couple of days / weeks as people log in. It was ~ 160 a day or two ago.

May I know if your AO mentioned if you are placed on the waiting list because they need to see which applicant accepts or rejects, or if they are trying to see the total pool of applicants in round 3 before making a decision based on diversity, nationality, work experience etc.?

This may be crucial because we have a better chance if the latter is the case.

it seems the phase of this intake is quite different from the previous ones. Normally the number would go to around 400 after round 2, however it's only 314 this time. I don't think there will be the same number of applicants in Round 3 as the other two rounds. let's see what will happen.

Number is still increasing as the days go by, though. Today it's at 344. My guess is that it'll keep increasing over the next couple of weeks, since not everyone who was admitted has already signed in at MBAConnect. The total after all Round 2 admits enter MBA Connect should be around 400. That being said, it's hard to predict the number of applicants in Round 3. It's usually less, but they might also admit a larger number of candidates from a smaller applicant pool, or admit a larger number of waitlisted folks, you never know. It also depends on how the class is shaping up in terms of nationalities, work experience, age, gmat... I guess the best thing to do is just send any relevant updates, show interest and hope for the best.
I guess the two next key dates for waitlisters are shortly after September 15-16, when deposits are due for Round 2 folks, and October 10, when R3 decisions are out.

i asked for feedback, and my AO said the following:

"I would like to reassure you that, with competition as fierce as it is for a seat at INSEAD, your application does not need to have a specific weakness to be on the waitlist. It is for this reason that we are not asking you for supplementary information to strengthen your application. Being offered a seat on the waitlist simply means that, although strong, when compared to the pool of applicants for your intake, your application was not as strong as others were."
