Have you heard anything since being waitlisted in R1? Did you respond to the AO with any queries?
I called my AO about 3 weeks ago to say "hello" and check in. I was assured that there would be movement in the near future and overall it felt to be a very positive tone for the waitlist in general.
Otherwise, I was also told that providing any updates is unnecessary.
Disagree about providing updates as unnecessary. The key is to provide a quality update. They like to see job promotions and GMAT score improvements but I recently submitted somebody's update with regards to becoming the leader of their Community Soccer Club and he got off the waitlist so this is definitely a good strategy. I recommend that you all get a ding analysis to figure out what it is about your profile that is landing you on the waitlist and then get about the business of putting together an update that will address those things if possible. You can't resubmit essays but it is possible to remedy certain aspects of your application.

I definitely agree, I am just sharing what my AO said to me.
