Hi madhumita1999

You have a very well balanced and diversified profile. But we need to explore the extracurricular and academic projects in-depth to assess the same appropriately. We also feel that on the academic front a small improvement would make your profile more strong. That said, since YLP candidates are without any work experience, apart from basic hygiene factors, what ISB is looking for at this stage is a hustle to succeed, future leadership potential, and clarity of thought. The critical part will be how you present your candidature through your essays.

Have you already cleared YLP Stage I or are you planning to apply in the next cycle? In any case, if you want to discuss your profile in-depth over a call, please write to us on the email-id mentioned in the signature or DM us your contact details. Our consultants will get in touch with you to discuss the same.

12th -92% (1 year drop)
Engg- 8.84/10

Extra Curriculars:
- Represented school at regional and national level several times
- Recently got associated with the UN as a UNV but haven't taken any project yet(COVID)

Hi Anaisha,

ISB takes every application on strict merit. We understand that the gaps in your career might be making you a little anxious with respect to applying for ISB, but as long as the gap is justified by something tangible, it is acceptable. Your focus should be on highlighting the quality of your experience and your unique story.

That said, it won't be justified to give a thorough review of your application based on the information provided. We request you to please click the free profile evaluation link in our signature and fill the details. Our consultants would be happy to get in touch with you over a call to discuss the same.

Hi hnathani,

Your profile seems great for ISB. Starting with stats, since you have a professional degree of CA and you have passed CFA level 1, I believe you have compensated for a weak undergrad grade and 12th grades (but still ISB is very particular about these so you must demonstrate 'intellect' in your essays). About your work experience, I can see career progression and elements of leadership in your profile. Being a statutory auditor and a consultant, I believe you can exhibit quantitative skills as well. Your extracurriculars should be the highlight of your profile because that really makes you unique, for example, your experience of being in the core team of "25 best Parliamentarian of India" tells you that you must possess good knowledge of current issues and your logical abilities and your 6 years of experience in the magazine highlights your commitment to a social cause. So, play on these qualities since ISB is highly concerned about bringing people with diverse thoughts and perspectives in their program. About your post-MBA goals, they make sense to me, just try to make them credible with substantiative arguments and reasons.

Overall a great profile for ISB but be careful of connecting all the experiential dots and build a great story. Additionally, make sure you list down the gaps that you have identified in your profile that you think an MBA from ISB will help you fill in order to achieve your post-MBA goals. If you’d like we are happy to hope on a call sometime this week to discuss your chances and your career goals in further detail. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi Tejasvee,

Your profile is great and I can see one amazing writer in you in the way you introduced yourself. Just an advice, if you introduce yourself this way in your essays, try to bring real-life examples of how you stand up to this idea of success. Now evaluating your profile, your stats are great for ISB and on the surface, your work experience, too, looks great. I can see elements of leadership in your ECs but this seems outdated. You need to bring something which you do now, beyond your work. It can be your interests, hobbies, or just anything that you do as a stress buster, other than work, especially when you are applying to ISB. About your post-MBA goals, they are quite impressive but if you are applying to ISB, you need to make them more concrete like where do you see yourself in the next, say, three years, and how you are planning to apply sustainable construction practices.

Additionally, make sure to connect the narrative of your goals to ISB's MBA program and its values. What's going to matter most in your application is how you connect all the experiential dots and build up a great story. If you'd like we are happy to hop on a call sometime this week to brainstorm your chances together. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Hi Everyone,

Can you please evaluate my profile.
I am an Indian male engineer based in Texas
I have an undergrad in Chemical Engg from India (Top 10 schools DCE) and MS in Petroleum Engg from University of Oklahoma (top 5 schools for Petroleum but I don't think lot of people know about this university).
One Internship & full-time work experience -Total 8.5 years experience (work experience includes experience in India, South Korea, China, majority in US etc)
Volunteered in lot of neighborhood communities and while I was in my grad school (Habitat for Humanity, Posse Foundation, Local clubs in my community etc)
This year because of COVID-19 some schools waived GMAT and I was able to get an interview from Rice U & MIT. no offer :(
However I am preparing for GMAT and looks like I am getting Q49 V27-V33 on mock tests. I know I have to improve a lot and looks like I don't have much time.
My plan is to apply for M5 schools for FT MBA in Round1.
The issue is I got laid off (COVID again :( ) and looking for a job. I don't know if this will have negative impact on my applications.

Target schools (Stanford, MIT, Kellogg, HBS and Rice). Plan is to go for Strategy MBB or in Fin-tech. I have not decided between two.

Suggestions and comments are welcome and appreciated.

Thank you all.

Hi Piyush1993,

On the surface, your profile seems great. Your stats are good and as you said, you have many academic achievements. For the latter, I caution you to bring everything out in applications, rather pick the ones which exhibit great intellect and set you at a distinction. For your work, I would like to know if you have promotions, any leadership roles, and if you have explored different functions in the organization. So, please provide details of your work-ex to evaluate your chances better. About extracurriculars, if you are thinking to apply to ISB, try to highlight them because this school looks for ECs to find a person beyond work. Also, I am not able to connect the dots of your post-MBA goals and prior experience. So, without getting a detailed profile, it's difficult for me to comment much. Alternatively, you are welcome to hop on a call with us to brainstorm your chances together. Feel free to book our calendar as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi madhur26,

Your profile seems great. Starting with stats, you have aced all your scores, 10th, 12th, and undergrad. A GMAT of 710+ would help you have a very strong chance at the school (since you have a lesser experience, GMAT above average is required). For your professional experience, I advise you to bring leadership and impact stories out of these 6 months because ISB puts great stress on exceptional leadership (also choose your LOR very wisely because, for early entry option, they do give it high importance).

For your ECs, capitalize on the story of being a founding member of E-cell and your role at NGO. Because ISB wants people "who can contribute to the society in positive and meaningful ways". Your 3 years at NGO shows your commitment to the organization and the work. Your post-MBA goals make sense for me, just need to make them a little more concrete and connect it to your prior career experience. You could also get some ideas from this article: How to connect the dots for an ideal MBA application. You are welcome to hop on a call with us and brainstorm your chances at the program together :) Feel free to book our calendar as per your convenience.

Hi Tejasvee,

Your profile is impressive for ISB. For the goals, while MBB have an infra practice (esp McK) in India (for India + support to global offices), other consulting firms such as Deloitte, EY, etc. are also working on very interesting projects. Do expand your option set- focus on the brand + the content of work as well.
As a plan B, you can target strategy teams of large infra firms in India (e.g. NCC, L&T, etc.).

In addition, with this profile and work-ex, you should consider IIMA as well if preference is for India b-schools.

Regards,
Manan

Hi madhur26,

Your profile is good and the target Gmat score will complement it well. The challenge for you would be the first essay- how do you identify that one trait which is an input to leadership considering the work-ex is only 6 months. Hence, you should focus more on your experience so far at college and the NGO to drive the leadership behavior (or the sparks therein). Goals are aligned to your current role. You'd need to be a bit more specific around the type of firms you want to work in and the products your want to work on.

March on!

Cheers,
Manan

Yes I have had one promotion and in the current year. Subsequent to this promotion, my field also got changed which would give me a completely new exposure compared to my previous role. In both the roles, my goal was to handle channel partners and develop their business wrt sales and profits.
Regarding post MBA goals, I would like to highlight that I am looking for a switch of career path and hence I am aiming to switch to consulting. Consulting specifically because the experience of handling channel partners for the last 5 years had me build my clinet facing skills and on some introspection I have come to the conclusion of switching to consulting. Pls guide . Thank you

Cheers!

Hi Piyush1993,

Acads are great, your Gmat score should be in-line with those and hence, aim for 720+ (especially for your long-term ambitions). Overall, spending some time in consulting before your PhD is a good idea to gain the target industry's / field of study's exposure. Majority of the Professors at ISB had a good combination of work ex + PhD before joining reputed schools. For e.g. Prof. Subramanian (ex-ISB Professor and now CEA, GoI) worked for a few years within investment banking before his PhD. A couple of my classmates from ISB are also following a similar path.

However, do check on ISB's validity as a Master's degree at the universities you're targeting for PhD. Also, the short-term goal should be around gaining industry exposure and not a 'fat pay package'. Chase excellence, fat pay packages will come :)

Happy to connect on a call to discuss further.

Regards,
Manan
