Hello, please evaluate my profile
10th 90.5
12th 90.1%
Btech - 74.3%
gmat score - 660
age- 25, male
Workex - 4years
I am working as a mean stack developer.
I had handled 3 projects(e-commerece) and organized events at office.
I got a gold medal from a ftrust for bringing awareness in rural areas and received certificate of appreciation from district collector for organising medical camp on behalf of indian red cross society.
I have also got a certificate of appreciation as a motivational speaker for motivating people to donate blood and secured 2097 rank out of 125000 students in gate 2015 examination.

Apart from these i organised blood donation camps on behalf of red cross in many areas.

post mba: Technical strategist.
Hi vmkumar,

You have good amount of social initiatives under your belt. However, the Gmat score is a bit low for the work experience you have. Suggest you re-take the Gmat to improve by 30-40 points and then apply. You'd have to be a bit more specific with your post-MBA goal: mention about the sector you're targeting and the kind of firms you'd want to work with. The role of a Tech Strategist spans upto a CIO track, is that your long-term goal?

Regards,
Manan

Hi manikmehta95,

Very impressive profile and exposure to the brands and the FMCG sector. Getting recruited as part of a Future Talent Program itself signals the value you bring to the table. Your achievements in sports add a lot ammunition to your repertoire :)
What are your short and long-term goals? You are a good candidate for the leadership programs offered by firms such as ABG, Airtel, UBS (one I was a part of), etc.
Try to get a 690+ on the GMAT and create a structured application, you should be set!

All the best!

Hi gargi2706,

With this profile and the diversity you bring to the table (novel, English Literature and a Brand Strategist profile), anything over a 320 should be great!
Be clear with your goals and make sure you package everything well as a number of times great profiles don't get through because they bank more on the facts rather than projecting those facts well.

Cheers,

Thanks for the prompt reply S4G! your input has influxed alot of positivity before i attempt my GMAT.

Further,
Short term goals: change my domain to Strategy and marketing and probably return to Tetra Pak.
Long term goals: Pursue Entrepreneurship. Though i have not exactly displayed any history of entrepreneurship in the details above but will the details be essential if i state entrepreneurship as my long term goal?

Stay safe

Ultimately, your short-term goals should pave the path for your long-term ones. You can have a plan A and plan B for the short-term goals but it should lead to a northstar. Hence, at least a high level view is required for your entrepreneurial ambition- the type of business, sector, etc. You can read more about the essays here

All the best and stay safe!

Hi AngadAhuja,

Good profile overall. You have always tried to go beyond the call of duty, whether at school / college or at work. Goes to show the well-rounded focus you have in whatever you do. The internship experience would be a good conversation mechanism in the interview. In the application, do touch upon how your tryst with sports will be valuable for the class at ISB (through ISL, coaching peers, etc.) Try to focus on getting the post-MBA goal sorted- both options are equally good. Happy to have a detailed chat around this.

All the best, march on!

Cheers,

Hi gmatprans,
Quite an interesting journey. The UPSC phase must've taught you when to let it go (good life experience early-on!). Despite the gap, you've done well. Both your work-ex and initiatives outside of work present a good picture of the potential you have. It's about finding the right direction and going for it. Short-term goal is a good extension of your current experience. However, try to zero-in on the long-term goal between entrepreneurship or a full-time job. Accordingly, your path between the short and long-term goal should be presented in the 2nd essay.

Do cover what you learnt during the 2-year gap and the activities you undertook during while preparing for UPSC.

Package your extra-curricular experience well.

All the best!

Hi anisinghal

Admission Chances: You bring a unique experience of working with CAG which will definitely be a plus point for you as an applicant. Working for CRY and R&D exp adds a lot of diversity in your profile which is highly valued by adcom. However, your GMAT score is average and you may consider giving it another shot and increase your score by 20-30 points, considering you have done great in quant, but there may be scope for improvement in verbal. Also, you need to substantiate your GMAT score with a strong application highlighting key points such as Govt auditing, R&D & NGO experiences.

Career Gap: Work experience gap is generally not considered positively by the admission committee. But since you are from the Govt/PSU sector background, you can pitch in differently. You have cleared competitive exams and got into CAG. In Govt/PSU sector, such career achievement is possible only through national level exams which take a lot of effort and time. We have examples of many such cases of successful candidates with work ex gap who have made it to top B schools. You need to show your application in a very different way to convince the adcom. There are other unique ways to turn this gap into your strength especially from Govt/PSU perspective.

Job prospects: While working in CAG, you must have handled complex Govt. auditing procedures. This makes your profile suitable for consulting roles in big 4 consulting firms as a major chunk of their business comes from auditing. Also, some of the consulting companies such as PwC have lots of Govt. clients and prefer to hire candidates like you. Being said that you can always explore and try for other job opportunities in different roles/industries.

Feel free to register for a free admission/career consulting session with Ex-UPSC/PSU people who have pursued their MBA from the top B schools.
All the best!

Hi!

Planning to apply for round 1 ISB.

I’m a qualified Chartered Accountant with 2 years and post qualification experience in EY (big 4 CA firm) alongwith a 3 year internship at EY.

Decent academics, Cambridge Board degrees of 10th and 12th with A* in all subjects (roughly 90+ plus on avg). Graduation in BCom from Mumbai university, roughly 85%.
A slightly weaker GMAT score of only 650.

Would it make sense to apply in round 1? Or should I wait and give another GMAT in sept - oct and apply in round 2?

Hi VarunGampa,

Good profile overall.
- Education: not a big brand but the score is good
- Work-ex: Good mix of technical and non-technical experience. Efforts and results on mentoring add value to the profile. Part-time experience shows another entrepreneurial dimension to your repertoire
- EC/others: The food distribution and experience at ISKCON shows you have the ability to manage large events involving multiple stakeholders and moving parts. Sports complete the whole package!

Post-MBA goals align with your past experience. Do explain the entry of Blockchain to the mix + why can't you start your entrepreneurship journey now.

At this stage, there isn't anything you can initiate to increase your chances. Its all about projecting the profile well and succinctly bring all diverse elements together. For scholarships, strongly suggest you to apply in R1 as you have a shot at all the seats and 100% scholarship opportunities. Also since you've taken the GMAT already, there's no need to wait.

Feel free to reach out for further questions.

Cheers,
Manan
