Hi Buzzkill,

On the surface, your profile looks competent. Your ECs and internship experience seem interesting. Since your 12th score is on a lower side, I will advise targeting a GMAT of 710+ (ISB do stress on 12th scores). So, overall you have a fair shot and it all boils down to presenting a unique and well-connected story. Also, I would like to know your post-MBA goals as this is one important factor in shortlisting school and demonstrate your fit to a school. You are welcome to hop on a call with us to brainstorm your chances together.
Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hello Rajakashyap,

Each year, there are a few engineers from the petroleum industry to apply to ISB. You will have to make your profile unique through your story in the essays. I am sure you will hafe a lot of imoact and leadership stories to discuss from your work. Your GMAT is good for ISB.

For your post-MBA goal, you may want to talk about what skills will you gain at ISB that will help you accomplish your goal, and also why is it not feasible for you to do it without an MBA.
In all, you have a very competitive profile. Hope this helps.

Hi EricCartman95,
You tick all the boxes. Go ahead and apply! Regarding your questions,
1. At least for the first essay, you need to highlight one quality for which you can give professional and personal examples. Would like to know more about the projects / initiatives you've led to advise on that

2. Yes, GRE is good enough. It doesn't matter for your PM aspirations

3. R1 (strongly advise you to), pretty good chances

4. Depends on what you want to do :) Product Head roles or entrepreneurship are good paths to pursue

5. Not much

All the best!

Hi Kharevabs,

Good blend of interesting work-ex and extra curricular activities. In addition to the experience and your analytical skills, do highlight how you'd be able to contribute to the class through your photography (there's a photography club at ISB) and your knack of winning MUNs which would help in the number of case competitions the school participates in. Would love to discuss your hobby #4 at leisure :) but this would make for an interesting interview conversation.
Regarding GMAT, there is no 'optimum' score. Higher the better and a good score never hurts, trust me :) However, aim for a 710+ at least.

Cheers,
Manan

Hi MimansaGupta,

Your overall profile looks great. Your stats were decent up to 12th but after this, they are not very great. So, I would say, for ISB, target around 710 GMAT. Your work-experience seems amazing. I can see leadership and some really big impacts of yours in the organizations you've been part of. Also, you do have career achievements which some good b schools do stress. Your ECs too look great. A career switch seems relevant for a second MBA, just the premise of this switch should be relevant and substantiative. Also, I see a lack of international exposure in your profile, so to fill this gap, you should also be targeting some great schools out of India. If you’d like, we are happy to hop on a call sometimes this week to discuss some good schools and your chances in further detail.
Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

Hi Experts

Hope you are doing well.

Kindly evaluate my ISB profile (re-applicant) -

(I didn't receive an interview call in R3 last time, my GMAT was 670 (Q49, V33) with a similar profile below and a bit less work ex in the same company. An advantage this time is that I got promoted after my last R3 application. Got a recent GRE score of 322)

24 yo male, Indian, GRE: 322 (Q162 V160) (thinking of re-taking GRE but not very confident of a 326+ score)

Educational Qualification:

- B.Tech from Delhi Technological University (formerly DCE): Overall% = 79.64 (or CGPA- 8.7)
-12th: 94.8%
-10th: CGPA 10

Work Ex.:

BCG (2 years and 2 months - presently working):

- Research Analyst -

-Worked on long-term case-engagements with top Indian conglomerates
-Created expertise on topics such as Automotive and Logistics and worked on cases on topics of my interest (EdTech, Quantum Computing)
-Developed internal tools used at BCG on a global level
-Handled topic experts' workflow systems in their absence
-Collaborated with global case teams on research workstreams to deliver valuable insights
-Connected with global topic nodes to build and enable sustainable workflow for the team
-Specialized and developed expertise in topics of alignment

Current extra-curricular:

-Have a dance YouTube channel with 6500+ subscribers and 340k+ total views (planning to create Covid-19 awareness related dance videos)
-Have a dance Instagram page with 12k+ followers
-Took dance workout sessions for global BCG team during the Covid-19 times to spread fitness and energy during the chaotic times
-Led the new joiner training sessions
-Have been taking Physics (11th,12th) and Science (8th to 10th) tuition classes on weekends for 6 years (thought of starting my own EdTech startup when Covid-19 chaos started but ended up not doing so)
-Have choreographed BCG's dance performances at various events

Other interests:

-Love trading in stocks
-Write articles on Physics
-An avid reader of science non-fiction (Quantum and particle physics)
-Play the guitar
-Like to sketch

Short-term goal:

Move into strategy consulting role post MBA (preferably in the field of technology to get expertise in tech fields such as EdTech)

Long-term goal:

Start an EdTech start-up of my own

Hi Arnie369,

- Education + GRE: Good scores and the DCE brand would help. A GRE of 322 is slightly low for the experience you have but this can be covered through positioning your profile well

- Work-ex: Again, BCG is a good brand and you have a couple of interesting experience which can be leveraged in the essays and to substantiate your goals. However, if you goal is to start-up, that too in edtech, why not work in a similar firm to gain hands-on experience?

- EC & Hobbies: Very strong, especially with your escapades in dance and social media. This makes up a bit for your GRE. The challenge would be to represent this section well in the essays and the application since there is so much to highlight!

For the re-applicant essays, do highlight the promotion and other efforts you have made to improve your profile. Go ahead and apply now! All the best!

Could you also share your previous application? I suspect the reasons for rejection could be beyond the Gmat score.

Cheers,
Manan

Hi,
I’m Bharat Sethia.

Have applied for the YLP program at ISB

Currently in the final year of my undergraduate degree in Economics Honours from delhi university

Class 10 - 10 CGPA

Class 12 - 95.6 %

GPA - 8.14 (aggregate of 4 semesters)

GMAT - 750 (Q50 V41)

Have completed a finance internship with PwC and have plenty of ngo experience with organisations like CRY and Prayas

Also, I have decent extra-curriculars, having been involved in sports and societies alike.

I’d rate my essays as 8.5/10

Please review my profile and elaborate on my chances of getting an interview call and converting it into an admit
