Hi Satvik,

With 4+ years of experience in analytics/consulting, I am not convinced why you need an MBA to get into sports management or events management. I don't believe an MBA will teach you anything to be in an events management firm - hands on experience would be your best teacher. Moreover, you already have expertise in analytics if that's what you wish to extensively use in this field.

Have you already interviewed with firms in this space and have they said that an MBA is an eligibility criterion for a job?

As admissions consultants, if we hear future goals that are not aligned with the skills and experience you have built so far, that really does make our radars get switched on. If sports is something that is so meaningful to you that you wish to dedicate your life to it, then why are you not already doing something in this direction? Why are you waiting for an MBA?

We'll need to delve deeper into your ECAs to understand whether they are strong enough to support your listed goals as a strong career choice.

Hope that helps,

Hi Folks!
Would really appreciate some guidance with regards to my application for ISB this year.
Workex till May'21-> 3.25 yrs
I am an Indian male.

Have experience in working at an MNC as an IT engineer, Then I shifted to a small startup to gain richer experience in Product management and development.
I have a GMAt score of 710.
Should I apply in R1 so that I have some good experience of the process & if unfortunately can't convert, apply again in R2, with better GMAT score.
OR,
Just apply directly iin R2 with retest in GMAT ( hopefully with a better score)

Hello SiddharthaBan,
You have a great academic profile, with an above-average GMAT score too. I see a lot of leadership potential in your professional work experience. Remember to bring that out in your essays well.
Your hobbies and your community service stand out too, which will make for a very good profile for ISB. For your goals, try to be more focused in what you want to do. AdCom does not like candidates who are uncertain in what they want to do in future. Be focused to the point if you know the role, or even the company you would want to work for in that particular role. Hope this helps.

Hi rewant12, this is a mistake that applicants often commit.

The goal that you've mentioned is actually not a goal; in fact, getting a holistic view of all aspects of the business is a means to achieve some goal (some examples of goals would be occupy strategic position in the automobile industry, pursuing a career in Operations Management etc.).

Great domain related work in Maruti and decent work experience, are all good starting points. Make sure that the application is immaculately crafted too, to further enhance your chances.

Hi Satvik098, this might be a bummer for multiple reasons:

i) Your educational and professional experience (in EXL) do not suggest anything with respect to Event Management/Sports

ii) ISB could also spot an employability issue with this goal

Satvik, you seem to have a very decent profile otherwise. Make sure that your goals manifest some continuity with your professional experiences so far.

Hi SiddharthaBan, glad you have Finance as the last option (looks untenable anyway:)).

Since you are working in sales, I would prefer marketing as the first choice, based upon a preliminary assessment of your profile.

Having said that, sales is just a subset of the overall marketing function (which includes brand management, advertising, and pricing, among others).

So, the entire storyline about the feasibility and coherence of your transition from Sales to Marketing function, needs to come out seamlessly in the essays.

Product management should work VinamraMaliwal, since you have a CS background and are working in the Tech field. Having said that, in your essay, do highlight your product related experiences and also articulate how Product Management is not just about technology but about the overarching Product management lifecycle, strongly interfacing with multiple business functions (and hence the need for MBA).
