Overall, you have a good profile but you come from an over-represented pool so a higher GMAT would have been better. The low undergraduate score will have to be depicted gracefully through the essays. I could help you with looking up for one-year programs. Let's connect for a more detailed discussion.
Best!

Hi,
seems like you posted on the wrong thread.
In terms of your profile, you are evaluating programs where the average work experience is typically about 5-7 years. If you are considering their MIM programs, you should be ok. If MBA, programs, I would suggest you wait a few years.

Hi there,

Overall, great and varied experience. ISB does not count articleship as full time WE, however you have substantial experience post articleship, which is a good thing for you in terms of your eligibility.

I see that you have led quite a few marquee projects. The current transformation project offers a chance for showing your leadership skills by taking ownership and being part of something big at the organization. Do make sure that you come out of this experience with a great record of achievements. The ISB essays are all about showing your leadership traits and demonstrating these through your essay stories will help push your candidature forward.

With your varied experience, I am wondering what your post MBA goals are.
The GMAt score as it stands is low and I would advise for a retake. The CA in in itself is highly rigorous, but that said, many MBA applicants combine it with their undergrad and are able to manage good undergrad scores. However, you can not go back and change your undergrad result- so try changing what you have in hand, which presently is the GMAT score.

Your ECAs are not very strong. If you can push in one single volunteering activity before your application, it will give you a talking point on the application. That said, this would rank below the GMAT in terms of priority.

Hello MishalSen1 hope this finds you well

You would be a great fit for ISB and IIM A, but for HEC Paris lack of international experience could cause some hinderance, although you should give your best shot at HEC. Focusing on your contributions on the iconic cases can be a smart strategy. Having relevant experience and a deeper understanding of financial controls in business puts you in a strong position from employability perspective. What are your post MBA goals? You need to do a good bit of research to make sure your goals are plausible because your background is somewhat specific. GMAT is slightly lower than average for the Indian demographic at top B schools. Hope your Quant score is on point (Q49+).

ECs are weak and dated, however with some reflection you might be able to recall more recent initiatives.

Judge, Kellogg, Said, IMD and IE are some other schools you can take a look at. If you are interested in the Kellogg 1 year program (even for the others ) you may want to connect with the admissions office to discuss your employability prospect in detail.

Best wishes

Hello mkishan93 hope this finds you in good health

Very interesting work experience! ISRO is a routine feeder to top B schools in India and abroad. Your GRE could be better and your CGPA is low. Hope you have a plausible explanation for having a low CGPA. Any chance that you can retake the GRE? A score of 3 on AWA is slightly concerning but if you do well on the essays and in the interviews, ISB and the IIMs should not have any apprehension.
What about your post-MBA goals? I do not wish to bias your preference but suggest you connect to discuss in detail some options that align very well with your background.

Feel free to reach out should you need professional help on crafting stellar applications and preparing for the interviews.

Best wishes

Hi experts,

I am Bhaskar from India. I am looking for some advices to build a strong profile.

Target schools: ISB, IIMs, XLRI.

Education:
10th: 84%
12th : 70%
B.Tech : 7.4

GMAT: Not taken.

Work exp: 5.4 years.
Org : TCS
Industry: IT services.
Role : ERP SCM techno-functional consultant.

Brief on work exp. : Currently working as a SCM track lead for a Saudi client (MOH). Responsible to handle a team of 3 Indian and 2 Arabic resources.

I have worked with clients like Honeywell(US), Etihad(UAE), GAZT(SAUDI), MOH(SAUDI) and KACST(SAUDI).

Honeywell: Not so much to talk about, joined as a fresher stayed there for 8 months. (Peoplesoft was kind of dead thus moved to Oracle)

Etihad: Developed a fully customized HR portal for crew members featuring leave, recognition ,snapshot,PIP etc. This portal have 2 inbound integration (SAP and AIMS) and 1 outbound integration.

Presented the application as a ready made custom solution for aviation industry to my company's pre sales and leadership team.

GAZT: handled the on boarding process from a leaving vendor to my org. Automated components and supported the project and whole HOTO process for 3 months.

KACST: placed as a Technical Consultant with 4 years of work exp. SCM track lead and lead a team of 3 people. Developed custom workflows that automated the whole vehicle and housing booking process. Worked on custom solutions to prevent corruption.

Extra curricular:

2012-15: Co-ordinator of college tech fest - EDGE(second biggest in eastern India after IIT KGP).

2016: Head of gaming committee, Cyber Crusade, and led a team of 25+ people. Cyber Crusade was (probably still is) the tournament with largest prize pool in any college gaming event - 10 lacks+. Teams from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Odisha, BHU, Assam and West Bengal participated.

Participated and won 4-5 counter strike tournaments back in 2013-16.
I had a big passion for gaming and wanted to become an eSport player. We did not get a sponsorship as a team so it didn't work out in the end.

After joining corporate,I have not done such activities that I can showcase. I go to gym know about nutrition a bit and read books.

Family business: I am highly involved in my family's manufacturing business for last 2 years. Developed better quality products, quality assurance, adding machinery and going digital helped me to gain 4% profit margin. We employ ~120 workers and have an annual turnover of ~3 cr inr. This business helped me a lot to grow as a person and added new perspective that also helped me in my IT consulting field.

[People have told me that family business experience actually does not count that much. If you can clarify how to use it to my advantage.]

I am targeting consulting as my post MBA industry.

# Am I lacking leadership exp. in my resume? [Asking as I have seen resumes with great leadership focus exp.]

# I have also completed data analytics course and can join a new project in next 3 months. I personally enjoy analytics and I believe it would be a good to have skill set in Consulting too. What's your opinion?

What skills you would suggest me to acquire if I take another year to build a stronger profile to crack ISB and consulting?

TIA

Hello bhaskar12345,

Thanks for writing in.

Good to see some international exposure on your profile as well as client handling experience. We do not think you have a dearth of leadership experience, especially considering you are currently handling a team and have also garnered substantial exposure to the family business.

While your professional experience appears to be in good shape, it is the extracurricular activities that appear a bit plain. Having said that, if you are looking to apply in the next few months, there isn't much you can do on that front. Thus, it is better to focus on your GMAT prep and aim for a score upwards of 720.

With a 720 on the GMAT and a set of well-crafted essays that appropriately focus on your strengths and tie up your goals in a logical manner, you will have a competitive chance at making it into ISB.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

Can anyone provide an idea of what is the current average GMAT Score for CA's at ISB

Hello dpkkumar1991,

Hope this finds you well.

There is no average GMAT score per profession. There is an average GMAT/GRE score that accounts for the entire class. While no score can guarantee an interview call or admit, a score upwards of 720 on the GMAT is what you should aim for; needless to say, the higher the better. Of course, the GMAT is only one component of your application. Your application will be reviewed in a holistic fashion and the Ad Com will also focus on other aspects - professional profile, achievements, extra-curricular activities.

All the best!

Hi ishankochhar,

Thanks for your query.

You should definitely aim for a score upwards of 710 on the GMAT. That said, what is going to be crucial is how well you explain the need for an MBA and what you wish to pursue as a post MBA career goal. Unfortunately, this information has not been included by you and we are, therefore, not in a position to comment on the same.

Hello MishalSen1,

Thanks for writing in.

You should definitely retake the GMAT to improve your chances of receiving an interview call. The improved score will also help compensate for your low undergrad score. The good news is that you still have a couple of months and you will have nothing to lose even if you give it one more shot.

Rest, a lot will depend on how well you craft your essays, making the most of your average extra-curricular engagements, and showcasing a logical flow between your existing experience and future goals.

All the best!

Hello akarshmathur,

Good to see the leadership experience both at work and during your time at college - it will prove to be a valuable talking point. We would have liked to see more about your goals but we do not seem to have access to that information.

Anyhow, while a 710 is a score you could definitely apply with, we would urge you to give the GMAT another shot as there is time at hand and scope for you to improve your score on the Verbal section. It would help your IR score as well just in case you also choose to apply elsewhere(while this doesn't count towards your overall score, and is not considered by ISB, a 3 on IR is considered low).

All the best!

I'm kishan working in Indian space research organisation (ISRO) as quality control manager for assembly and testing of cryogenic stages for GSLV MK III and human space program and 2 other future ISRO projects.

10th - 88%
12th - 92.5 %
B.tech - 6.52 CGPA
GRE - 323 AWA - 3.0

B TECH from Indian institute of space science and technology with 100% central government scholarship.

Represented college and office in football and volleyball

My concerns are my BTech CGPA, GRE and AWA scores
To compensate for your low CGPA, which you cannot do anything about now, it becomes crucial that you get a good GRE score.

So, please reattempt and target 327+ preferably mkishan93.

You have a great profile otherwise; don't let it go abegging because of a sub-par GRE score.

Your GMAT score, though not stellar, hovers around the average at ISB. At this point, just focus on putting forth a strong application complete with essays that aptly bring out your potential and logically portray your career goals.

All the best!

Hello AndyBihari,

Your experience with the Indian army is going to help differentiate your candidature. You must, at this point, focus on achieving a score upwards of 700 on the GMAT and articulating your post MBA career goals through well-crafted essays that also aptly highlight your differentiated background.

Good luck!

Hello mkishan93

The information shared is limited and quantitative in nature, and some more details are needed to give a detailed feedback.
Let us start with what is available here-

1. Acads- past scores are decent, degree is unique, scholarship (especially if merit based) can make for good story telling. GRE is slightly below average. Can it potentially be compensated in your specific case? Yes, but more qualitative details are needed (keep reading).
2. Work Ex- ISRO brand helps stand out. Need more info here such as years of work ex, career progression trajectory, achievements etc. Without such details that will be later used in essays, work ex is just a bullet point.
3. Diversity- While ISRO already adds some brownie points on diversity, extracurricular activities are equally important. Little to go by the details shared in your post, but on the face of it- university level activities do not tend to add much weight, but really depends- what did you achieve here, was it just a hobby or is there something worth talking about. Devil lies in the details here. Also, how can you make these activities relevant to the B-School application is something that has to be thought through.
4. Career goals- Most important piece of the admissions puzzle. Schools would want to see a leader with clarity of thought on Why you want to pursue an MBA with your background. No information here to give a feedback.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.
