Work role includes leading a team of associates, performing multiple financial analyses and handling end to end processes.
"end to end process" comes across as generic and a bit cliched.

Specificity and detail would definitely help in the application. Also, we get no sense of your goals.

Make sure that the goals are aligned with your professional and educational experiences so far.

Hello AndyBihari

The profile is quite strong as the army experience will really help you stand out. Apart from the GMAT what you should now focus is defining your career goals- what exact roles and companies do you want to target and transition into the civilian life.
Rest all boils down to story telling, but on paper the profile is good- combined with a 700+ GMAT will put you in a strong place.

:)

Hi Shounak16 hope this finds you in good health

My two cents
1. Good acads and a strong brand on your professional resume. Since things are looking good from a first perspective, do not go lax on your essays. Deliberate well on the experiences that have shaped your personality and demonstrate through examples the skills that reckon immense leadership potential in your candidacy.

2. What are your post-MBA goals? ISB is known for rejecting applicants who have a weak understanding of their post-MBA prospects.

For some self-reflection do refer to this brief write-up which would help you to think about your MBA profile more holistically

https://gmatclub.com/forum/note-keeping ... l#p2976345

You GMAT is decent but not great. I think your success would ride on the back of your sound professional pedigree and a strong overall narrative.

Should you need help in carving a solid applications strategy feel free to reach out.

Hello Mekhs hope you are doing well

For a young applicant at 24 years of age, having four years of experience in the IB industry topped with multiple internships is top tier pre kind of MBA experience. To add to this you have good acads and a decent GMAT score. You have a Q47 which is slightly lower than a borderline elite score of Q49+ (for the Indian demographic), and although this may not at all be a concern for the ad com, I suggest you highlight a sound quantitative aptitude by citing examples from work and school. Make use of anecdotes to convey your leadership traits and an analytical bent of mind.
You have not talked about any ECs or hobbies. Having some would help showcase a well rounded personality.

If you need professional help to chalk a solid applications strategy do reach out.

Warm regards

Hi AndyBihari,
That's a diverse profile which will make for some great essays to depict your transition, goals, and your leadership story. I would love to have a go at working with you given the possibility of weaving a rich, unique narrative.Do DM for essays help if you so need. As for GMAT, aim in the range of 720-740 if possible; that said, it also depends on the type of schools you want to target. Some may have a lower requirement and some higher - decide your learning goals first. Also, in your case your post-MBA goals would be crucial. How and in which industry you want to transition? That narrative has to be thought out well and depicted just as convincingly in the essays. Again, you have a diverse profile and stand a good chance. Do connect in case of any queries. All the best!

Hi experts,

I am Bhaskar from India. I am looking for some advices to build a strong profile.

Target schools: ISB, IIMs, XLRI.

Education:
10th: 84%
12th : 70%
B.Tech : 7.4

GMAT: Not taken.

Work exp: 5.4 years.
Org : TCS
Industry: IT services.
Role : ERP SCM techno-functional consultant.

Brief on work exp. : Currently working as a SCM track lead for a Saudi client (MOH). Responsible to handle a team of 3 Indian and 2 Arabic resources.

I have worked with clients like Honeywell(US), Etihad(UAE), GAZT(SAUDI), MOH(SAUDI) and KACST(SAUDI).

Honeywell: Not so much to talk about, joined as a fresher stayed there for 8 months. (Peoplesoft was kind of dead thus moved to Oracle)

Etihad: Developed a fully customized HR portal for crew members featuring leave, recognition ,snapshot,PIP etc. This portal have 2 inbound integration (SAP and AIMS) and 1 outbound integration.

Presented the application as a ready made custom solution for aviation industry to my company's pre sales and leadership team.

GAZT: handled the on boarding process from a leaving vendor to my org. Automated components and supported the project and whole HOTO process for 3 months.

KACST: placed as a Technical Consultant with 4 years of work exp. SCM track lead and lead a team of 3 people. Developed custom workflows that automated the whole vehicle and housing booking process. Worked on custom solutions to prevent corruption.

Extra curricular:

2012-15: Co-ordinator of college tech fest - EDGE(second biggest in eastern India after IIT KGP).

2016: Head of gaming committee, Cyber Crusade, and led a team of 25+ people. Cyber Crusade was (probably still is) the tournament with largest prize pool in any college gaming event - 10 lacks+. Teams from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Odisha, BHU, Assam and West Bengal participated.

Participated and won 4-5 counter strike tournaments back in 2013-16.
I had a big passion for gaming and wanted to become an eSport player. We did not get a sponsorship as a team so it didn't work out in the end.

After joining corporate,I have not done such activities that I can showcase. I go to gym know about nutrition a bit and read books.

Family business: I am highly involved in my family's manufacturing business for last 2 years. Developed better quality products, quality assurance, adding machinery and going digital helped me to gain 4% profit margin. We employ ~120 workers and have an annual turnover of ~3 cr inr. This business helped me a lot to grow as a person and added new perspective that also helped me in my IT consulting field.

[People have told me that family business experience actually does not count that much. If you can clarify how to use it to my advantage.]

I am targeting consulting as my post MBA industry.

# Am I lacking leadership exp. in my resume? [Asking as I have seen resumes with great leadership focus exp.]

# I have also completed data analytics course and can join a new project in next 3 months. I personally enjoy analytics and I believe it would be a good to have skill set in Consulting too. What's your opinion?

What skills you would suggest me to acquire if I take another year to build a stronger profile to crack ISB and consulting?

Greetings,

I am an ISB Alum, CO15, and have been assisting applicants to get into global business schools since then.

Ideally, a score of at least 720+ is recommended for a strong chance. I suggest you clearly mention your work responsibilities and projects you have worked on. Try to bring out the impact and results that you have created with your work and connect it to how it brings value to your application for an MBA. Your extracurricular activities seem a bit dated and I would suggest you work on that. You have a good amount of leadership experience, so try to elaborate on that. Also, the family business shows initiative and strong leadership drive, so try and bring out these aspects from your experience in handling your business. Focus on writing a stellar essay combining your future goals with your endeavors and ambitions will make your application strong.

Good luck!

Ideally, a score of at least 720+ is recommended for a strong chance to get an interview call from ISB, however, a GMAT of 700+ is also competitive. There is no separate average score for any profession or for people with different backgrounds. Please focus on getting a good GMAT score. Rest also depends on your leadership roles and responsibilities, your extracurricular activities, and your essay application. please make sure to mention all of your achievements and how you have created an impact through the project that you might have undertaken. Please keep in mind that articleship is not included in work experience, so only full-time, post articleship experience will be considered.

Good luck!

Hello bhaskar12345 hope this finds you in good health

You should target a high GMAT score (730+) to stay competitive given you belong to the Indian IT male demographic. Despite the IT background, I think you have worked on interesting projects and you will be able to show consistent progression and learning. You have worked with some notable brands even though they were your clients, you can quantify how you added value to each project.

Involvement in the family business can be sometimes difficult to corroborate. I would rather that this experience compliments the corporate experience and does not completely take away the focus from your projects with notable clients at TCS.
Think through the contributions you made to your family business and focus on key success metrics that you led single-handedly. Applicants who have experience in scaling a family business can bring unique perspectives in that they have experienced firsthand, the implications of decision making with specific goals in mind. As the new generation in the family business, you could also argue your case with examples, citing your fresh and unconventional approach to doing business (as opposed to traditional norms followed by your senior family members) as your motivation for pursuing MBA. The experience of working in a family business brings immense learning and challenges that if showcased aptly in your application, would make you a strong contender for a place in the next academic cohort at your target school.

Your ECs are dated but there's not much you can do about it now. Focus on getting a stellar GMAT score and give your best shot on the applications.

Consulting goals, if not deliberated properly can become a reason for rejection. You need to be specific about the type of roles that interest you and plausibly align with your experience. Consulting roles you could consider can be industry-specific such as supply chain or IT consulting roles or management consulting, business strategy, or corporate strategy roles. Think about what you would like to do in the long term, say 10-15 years from now. Then break down your journey to your long-term goals into possible alternative career paths (a plan A and a plan B) that would help you to pick the right set of skills.

Feel free to connect if you need more insights into building your narrative.

Warm regards

Hello!

Please help me in evaluating my profile for ISB and what my chances for selection might be. Here are my details -

Age/Gender - 28/Male

GMAT - Expected 750 (+/- 20 based on mocks)

Education -
  • CA (2021) - First attempt, but 5 years gap in between eligibilty and actually clearing final exams, marginally missed out on an AIR
  • LLB (2019) - Government Law College, Mumbai - Ranked top 1% in the University
  • B. Com (2014) - Institute of Distance and Open Learning, University of Mumbai - Ranked top 10 in the course of 6k+ students
  • 12th (2011) - 81% - Maharashtra State Board
  • 10th (2009) - 86% - Maharashtra State Board

Work Ex -
  • Founder/CEO of a seed funded mobile gaming startup, since Jan 2021.
  • Legal/financial consultant to a few SMEs in the housing and wine industry.
  • Co-founded a fantasy sports website in 2018 with IIT/IIM grads. Shut down in 2020. No salary, was paid in equity.
  • 3 years CA articleship at a small CA firm.

I'm primarily concerned about -
  • quality of my undergrad (since it was a correspondence course)
  • no metric for establishing my rank in CA and university courses
  • amount of work ex (whether 3 years of CA articleship and 2 years of unpaid startup experience would count)
  • quality of my work ex (although with big responsibilities, it has been in small startups)

Thank you!

Greetings,

I am an ISB Alum, CO15, and have been assisting applicants to get into global business schools since then.

Your expected GMAT score is great and if you achieve that it will make your application strong for ISB. You have a diverse educational background which shows experience in different fields. Don't worry about working in a startup just make sure that you mention all the roles and responsibilities that you undertook and the impact you were able to create. Focusing on the outcome of your responsibility is essential and more relevant in the application. Unfortunately the articleship does not count as work experience so you might need to focus on the work that you did post your articleship as a CA. In your application essay, incorporate how this program will help you progress and achieve your goals and how this career path is best suited for you.

Good luck!

Hello yogesh122 hope this finds you in good health

You do have some noteworthy offices on your resume and I suggest you dive a little deeper into the specific responsibilities you handled, stakeholders you managed, and contributions you made during each of these stints. With a decent GMAT (720+) and a good job of explaining why you need an MBA to move onto the next phase of your professional growth, you should be able to into the school of your dreams.

Given you have a public sector banking and commerce background, I am sharing some ideas to get you thinking about your story. Note my ideas are just examples of how you could present an interesting profile even as a public sector professional. To put forth a strong narrative you could talk about your motivation to work in the public sector. You may have interesting insights from working on the execution of projects that concern specific TGs such as the bottom of the pyramid of the Indian economy. Demonstrate compassionate leadership through stories and iron will to mobilize such sectors to post MBA leveraging your prior experience in public sector banking and your increased business acumen after MBA. Be conscientious about your goals, show that you have networked with folks from your target industry (and ISB alums), and research your goals well. Goals that align with your current experience would seem convincing. This calls for more discussion and research but I think you can leverage your experience to get into a wide array of roles in public sector advisory, consulting, startups etc.

Feel free to reach out if you need professional assistance on creating a stellar application.

Warm regards

Can anyone provide an idea of what is the current average GMAT Score for CA's at ISB
Hi dpkkumar1991, I am sure there is no official information available on this.

Going by my experience and without any knowledge of others aspects of your profile, I would suggest 690 or above.

TIA

hope this finds you in good health

Thanks a lot for your in-depth analysis.

I had immense interest in SCM that's why I moved from core HR to SCM module in Oracle erp.
However when I started to explore gen man consulting, I was amazed by the immense possibilities it offers. However I got some insight from my peers/seniors that one need to have 'pedigree' in their resume to crack MBB. As I dont have it, I inclined towards big 4 and accenture strategy. Now it will be a practical approach for me to opt for IT consulting but still I have this strong desire for gen man.

My question is :

1. What chances do you think I have for gen man consulting?

2. Coming from IT industry will it be possible for me to crack into SCM industry (not scm vertical of IT industry)?

Looking forward to your reply.
