Hi,

In the class of 2023, from the 843 admits 50 admits had a work experience of more than 8 years. Having a high work experience is not a roadblock from the point of view of the school but the onus of communicating the fit is on you. If you have done the research well and communicate it well in the application process, its will be good.

As for the GMAT - a high GMAT will help you in two ways - 1. Compensating your GPA. 2. Communicating to the school that you are keen to put in the effort to pursue an MBA and ace it.

The average at ISB is around 716, a higher score than that would be good.

All the best!

Hi everyone,

I have 10 years of experience in the pharma industry (Quality, R&D, Project Management).

10th class: 88%

12th class: 88%

Bachelors in pharma: 6.79 CGPA

Certifications: PMP Certified and LSSGB (In progress)

Currently preparing for GMAT and want to know what score will help in clearing ISB.

Is my higher side of the experience is a bottleneck in applying and clearing ISB.

Is my profile really suits for candidacy of ISB.

Hi starzsat0330 hope this finds you well

Your experience of 10 years is certainly not a concern.

1. Your Undergrad GPA is low. If you accept that this can be a very realistic hurdle in your PGP/MBA journey and you make a conscious effort to work your profile narrative such that you balance your low GPA, you will not be disappointed. Focus on getting a high GRE/GMAT so that you can show your true academic potential. A balanced score of about Q48+ and V38+ is good.

2. Your background in pharma R&D and Project Mgt are good talking points, but you did not mention what your goals are post PGP. What do you expect to achieve at ISB? Of all the questions asked in the PGP interviews, the question about goals and how ISB can add value to your professional journey is the most important. Failure to describe PGP-justifying goals is a common mistake made by PGP rejects.

I gather from your profile that you worked in formulation but perhaps were more oriented towards the development to production rollout aspects, which is great because it gives you the opportunity to speak about your ability to work under a high-pressure environment where you are likely to coordinate with a plethora of stakeholders at all levels (from leadership to manufacturing to point of sale). Unpack your experiences and construct your stories in a way that shows that working on your projects has given you much more hands-on experience, more experiential maturity, and more capability to contextualize business problems (specific to your area of work ). Definitely take advantage of your unique positioning to create a strong leadership narrative.

Industry focus - Since you are considering a 1-year MBA, your post-MBA industry seems likely to be pharma/healthcare (although you did not mention). Candidates who exhibit a strong understanding of their industry, supported by extensive reading, research, and hands-on experience, stand out. In your essays and interviews, delve into your industry's future trends, challenges, or emerging approaches. For instance, identify a problem you may have observed at close quarters in pharma/biopharma in India and discuss strategies to achieve a sustainable solution. Engage the adcom in a captivating vision that highlights your expertise in your area.

Dear starzsat0330,

Being on the higher side of work experience definitely does not hamper your chances of getting into ISB. This is based of my experience of interacting with my classmates at ISB (CO15) and also on the basis of the successful admission journeys of the applicants I have helped crack ISB over the last 6 years.

Having said that, you do need to take special care of the following aspects in your application:
a. The trigger behind the decision to pursue an MBA after so many years?
b. How do you intend to add value to the cohort which comprises of classmates who are are relatively less experienced than yourself - essentially how will you contribute to the P2P learning.
c. How practical are your career goals post ISB?

As far as score is concerned, you should aim for at least 700 to compensate for your lower than average undergrad GPA. Your academic background in Pharmacy can bump your diversity quotient if you play your cards well.

Feel free to go through the blog - https://www.crackadmission.com/leverage ... a-program/. This should hopefully help you make the right choices.

As mentioned above, I am an ISB alumni and have been guiding applicants successful get an admit from ISB since 2016. Feel free to set up a pro-bono profile evaluation session with me if and when needed by registering here : https://calendly.com/crackadmission/profileevaluation

Cheers and all the very best

Hello @Starz0330,

Thanks for writing in.

Your years of experience will not be a roadblock per se provided you are able to aptly showcase your motivation for an MBA and a clear career trajectory following the same. A set of well-written essays should be able to take care of this.

No score can guarantee an interview call or admission but you should aim in excess of a 720 in order to compensate for your low GPA as well as prove to the Ad Com that you are fully prepared to make the most of a rigorous academic program.

Should you wish to discuss your profile in greater detail, please feel free request a profile evaluation session with us. You may drop us a message in this regard.

All the best!

Is it possible to get into ISB with low academics and no extracurricular activities during academics time.

Following articles will answer your question:

i) Are poor academics a show stopper at ISB?.

ii) The role of extra-curricular in ISB application.

Quote:
how much i should target in GMAT
Well, sky is the limit, but since you are asking us to pick a number, I would say 720+.

Hi all, kindly evaluate my profile for ISB (and MBA colleges in UK)
10th : 9.6 CGPA or 91% (CBSE Board)
12th : 96% (CBSE board)
Bachelor’s: B.Sc Maths Honours (LSR College) - 8.2 CGPA
GMAT : 690
work exp : 3 years as of this date.
Industry: Consulting
2.4 years- supply chain consulting at GEP worldwide
Last 7 months- Executive search and leadership advisory firm

Apart from ISB, i am thinking of top UK schools such as LBS, Imperial, Oxford and Cambridge.

Could you please give your views.

Thanks

690 really does not do justice to your brilliant academic pedigree and the schools you are targeting Iti24.

So, please see if you reattempt and get at least a 30 point jump from your current score.

Hello all,

I am planning to do a second MBA. I have done b.sc in physics hons and my graduation marks was low. This was 45% only. I did one MBA from a local college and i have 71% in my first MBA. My 10th marks is 85.85% from West Bengal board and 12th marks is 84.85% from West Bengal board. I have 2 years of experience. I am targeting ISB Hyderabad as I don't want to leave my country as of now. Should I take GMAT with this profile and ISB is possible?
Please provide your valuable suggestions.

Hi diganta.banerjee,

A low GPA is going to be a disadvantage; however, you can always compensate for the same with a GMAT score in excess of 730. To answer your question, you may definitely take the GMAT; however, the same will need to be combined with a strong application that aptly portrays your strengths (this will need a fair bit of deliberation as you only have 2-years of work experience) as well as your need for a second MBA.

All the best!

GMAT: My first attempt score is 700 (Verbal - 34, Quant - 50)

Work Experience - Total 3 yr ( 2 yr full time + 1 yr Internship)
* Started my career as Program Analyst Intern in Board Infinity(Edutech Startup) in May 2020(the final year of my B.tech).
* I worked as a program analyst for 6 months and got promoted after 6 months as associate program manager after the successful completion of multiple projects.
* In the year 2021 after a year of completion of my internship and college degree I got promoted to Senior Program Manager because I was a key member of the team during periods when the team was severely understaffed, always a top performer, automated lots of processes, responsible for multiple entities and for parts of the group consolidation.
* Currently, I am working as a senior program manager in Board Infinity itself as a core team member. Managing a team of 15 and handling 3 verticals in the organisation.
* Using advanced analytical tools and automated reports to track performance, and designing solutions that balance technical capability, cost, and time against business needs.
* Resolving escalations and maintaining a process that reduces Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Turnaround Time (TAT)
* Planning and designing end-to-end workflows for cohorts and automating repetitive tasks using Zoho CRM, optimizing operations to improve overall productivity and efficiency.
* Providing consultation to 1500+ customers across various domains, solving their problems and improving their overall experience.
* Spearheading corporate relations and community management efforts while also working closely with technical teams to ensure that operational requirements and product changes are communicated effectively.
* Curating high-quality content and outreach to influencers, while also managing and mentoring team members to maximize their potential and foster an environment of growth and success.

LEADERSHIP ROLES AND POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY :

Club20:
* During my college days, I was appointed as the Social Media Head for Club20, an organization where I managed various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. My main responsibility was to ensure that the team executed the right campaigns during events hosted by the organization. I had to make sure that all posts and videos were in the correct format, with exclusive content and captions that were posted on time.
* I had to monitor social media metrics and analytics to track the effectiveness of our campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly. I also had to collaborate with other members of the team, such as graphic designers and content creators, to ensure that our social media presence was visually appealing and engaging.

Altiora:

* Successfully organised an EDM Night Concert on the college campus with a footfall of over 5000 people. Invited an artist from Sunburn and secured sponsorships worth INR 5 Lakhs.
* Managed the Miss LPU event with a footfall of 1000 people and secured sponsorships worth INR 2 Lakhs.
* Organised the Kitchen King event, which had over 100 participants, and oversaw the prize distribution by the Chancellor of the university.

Department of Youth Capital:

* Volunteered at the Department of Youth Capital, in the Division of Student Welfare, where I contributed to office management tasks.
* Successfully handled all backend office requirements and ensured the smooth functioning of different teams.
* Effectively managed office management tasks, including data entry, scheduling, and organising events.
* Developed strong organisational skills and attention to detail while single-handedly managing office management responsibilities.
* Collaborated with other volunteers to ensure seamless execution of events and projects.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
* First prize in the Odishi dance competition at the district level, where I represented Odisha's traditional dance form.
* Bronze medal in regional level kabaddi competition.
* Participation in One World and represented Mauritius Country.
* Participation in one India and represented Goa state and culture.

Additional Activities:
* Volunteered at different NGOs during my vacations and Corona time. After completing of the 12th board, I am associated with NGOs for volunteer purposes.

What do you think of my chances of getting into T20? I am more inclined towards MBA from ISB. But what other colleges I can target in USA/UK?

Hello AnanyaAnindita,

Apologies for the delayed response but we hope this finds you in time still.

Your work experience is on the lower side; however, there is a lot of value in everything that you have mentioned pertaining to the same. Your extra-curricular activities look promising as well. There is, however, no information pertaining to your career goals.

To cut a long story short, if you are able to boost your GMAT score but say 20 points and put forth a strong overall application, complete with goals that sync well with all that you have done so far, we feel you have a very good chance of receiving an interview call from ISB.

All the best!

Hello Aditya_vig,

Below is my evaluation of your profile.

Academics: Average; while your 10th /12th / Undergrad scores are not very impressive, a good CGPA in post grad saves the day for you. However, it will be interesting to know what was the batch strength of your cohort at Thapar.

Work Experience: Average; 2 years gap – then – an instructor – then 1st MBA – Full time job as a BA. You will need to clearly state the rationale behind the professional choices you have made in your career so far and how will a 2nd MBA complement / supplement your existing skills and accelerate your career towards your mid- and long-term goals.

Do note that there are a lot of applicants who apply to ISB every year from Business Analytics background from reputed companies such as – ZS, AbsolutData, Fractal, Dunnhumby, smaller startups etc. Through your essays you will need to demonstrate how your career has been unique and how you intend to add value to the classroom based on your specific project experiences.

Extracurriculars: Average; While community work gives some colour to your application, motivation behind the noble service will be what ad coms will be looking for.

To summarize, a GMAT in excess of 700 along with a well crafted application will give you a competitive shot.

I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been guiding applicants successfully navigate the application journey and crack global business schools. Feel free to reach out at https://www.crackadmission.com/contact-us/ if you seek professional assistance.

Hi Gmatlearnerpromax,

You have an impressive academic profile. Your work profile is unique (Merchant Navy + Maersk). We have consistently seen students with Merchant Navy background securing admissions at ISB. Therefore, your profile wouldn't be foreign to the admissions committee. Highlighting content creator point in ECs will only increase the depth of the profile (marine engineering + merchant navy + content creator in the same sector).
Couple of areas to strengthen/ introspect would be-
1. Target GMAT score: While you are yet to secure any score, targeting a score above 700 would definitely increase your chances and help give you an edge over other candidates with Merchant Navy profiles.
2. Goals: We would suggest you re-think your post-MBA goals. While consulting might be a good option, Product Management (especially if you are targeting tech-based roles) would be slightly out of reach. You might also want to explore operations based roles - these roles would require skill sets that you would have already developed in your work experiences.

Hope this was helpful! We are a bunch of ISB alums who help potential ISB candidates with profile positioning, essay reviews and interview mocks. Feel free to book a 15 min free session for more discussion- https://calendly.com/reachusfly/15min

Few questions you would need to answer in the application Aditya_vig:

i) Why 2nd MBA? In other words, what are you hoping for 2nd MBA to deliver, that your 1st MBA didn't.

ii) Goals: I don't get a clear idea. "get into higher management" is too generic.

Target a 700+ on GMAT.

Hello Aditya_vig,

Thanks for writing in.

You definitely provide more precise answers on why you wish to do a second MBA and what your goals are. At the moment, your goals have not been well defined. Further, your input on your professional experience does not detail your achievements, leadership exposure, and motivation to choose the path you have chosen. Hence, we are unable to comment on where the strengths pertaining to your profile lie.

In any case, you should be looking at a score upwards of 710 on the GMAT in order to have a realistic shot of getting an interview call.

All the best!

Hi Ayushiseth09,

Thanks for your query.

Your experience is on the lower side even though you have a fair number of talking points pertaining to your professional career (and these will help strengthen your case). A GMAT score in excess of 710 should give you a decent shot at getting an interview call.

As you are taking the GMAT soon, you should also see the following video on the following link:
