Post MBA Goals
Plan A: Strategy Planning in Automobile Industry
Plan B: Sales and Marketing in FMCG

Hi Ayushiseth09

Happy to pitch in my thoughts.

I am glad to see you have thought of a plan A and a plan B. You are on the right track. :)

Reading about your work experience, I must say it is quite an unconventional profile for a woman MBA applicant.
The automotive industry, including sales and after-sales departments, has typically been male-dominated.
Balancing the demands of a high-pressure job while dealing with an industry where stakeholders may have preconceived notions about women in technical or leadership roles definitely requires assertiveness and confidence to overcome challenges. Might I say what a great addition you would be at an MBA program like ISB! :)

ISB would undoubtedly place great value on your track record of achieving exceptional results and your remarkable ability to find solutions in real-time while maintaining peak performance metrics. These are just the skills ISB wants to see in applicants who tend to be at the lower end of the age/experience spectrum.

Regarding your plan A & B
Your plan B is not too typical for a school such as ISB. FMCG companies have very established career pipelines ( typically from 2 year PGDMs). You may want to keep your plan B broad or re-evaluate your plan B with an expert as this should ideally be a "safe" fallback option.

Feel free to connect should you want to discuss your application strategy.

Best wishes

Aanchal Sahni (INSEAD alum, ex INSEAD MBA admissions interviewer)

Hi Aditya_vig,

As you know, ISB is a highly competitive school, and the admissions process is very rigorous. However, there are a few things you can do to improve your chances of being accepted.

First, you should focus on improving your GMAT score. The average GMAT score for ISB students is 710, so you'll want to aim for a score that is at least 20-30 points higher than that. You can also improve your chances by gaining more work experience. The average ISB student has 3-4 years of work experience, so if you have less than that, you may want to consider applying through the Early Entry Option (EEO).

Finally, you'll need to submit a strong application package. This includes your resume, letter of recommendation, and essays. Make sure to highlight your strengths and accomplishments and explain why you're interested in attending ISB.

We wish you all the best in your GMAT preparation and your application process.

Regards,
Team ISBmantra

Hi Aditya_vig,

Would suggest targeting 710+ on GMAT (ISB's average is ~710). As your undergrad GPA is low, an even higher GMAT score can help address concerns there.

Since you haven't mentioned specific achievements or impact in your role(s), I'm unable to comment on the strength of your work experience.

Please also have clear and specific answers to: why (second) MBA, why now, why ISB and why consulting/ higher-management. Consulting firms typically prefer younger candidates (with 2-4 years experience pre-MBA) for generalist roles, however, you will need to have clarity on which firms you are targeting, why you can't make that switch now (e.g. with your MBA network) and how exactly ISB's resources (e.g. clubs, courses, industry association, alumni network) will help you achieve your goals.

Hello gak999,

Thanks for sharing the details pertaining to your profile.

Frankly, there are plenty of talking points. These, coupled with the GMAT score you are targetting should put you in a very comfortable spot. The only thing that is missing is what you intend to do post-MBA; it is important that your goals showcase a logical progression and tie up with your strengths and background. Your essays will need to demonstrate this sync in an appropriate manner.

There is no minimum or maximum score that guarantees an admit. You need to work towards getting as high a score as you can.

Should you wish to discuss your case in greater detail, please feel free to reach out to us for a profile evaluation session.

All the best!

Hi gak999 strong profile indeed, although your GMAT score will remain an important component in the ultimate decision for the adcom.

What you need to do differently as an EEO applicant is demonstrate that working at a Multinational Consulting Company you have gained a solid understanding of your industry or field in a short period of time by working on a variety of projects and initiatives. As I often mention, it's essential to unpack your experiences and reconstruct your narrative to showcase how high-impact projects have granted you more hands-on experience and opportunities to engage with diverse industry stakeholders and this has led to your increased experiential maturity and the ability to contextualize business problems in your industry (strategy consulting related to your field). You should also thoroughly explain the types of roles you are seeking after the PGP and why. Demonstrating a strong start on post-PGP goals research will bolster the adcom's confidence in your maturity and ability to navigate a PGP program typically designed for individuals with more experience. In addition, you should expect to be grilled in the interview and to be presented with some case scenarios or problems. These are the things I prepare my ISB applicants for.

Feel free to connect for advice on applications.

Best wishes

Aanchal Sahni (INSEAD alum, ex INSEAD MBA admissions interviewer)

Dear Luci123Fer456,

I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been mentoring applicants successfully crack global Business programs for last 6+ years. Below is my evaluation of your candidature:

GMAT: Below Average ; Quite understandably your score is below the median of 707-710
Academics: Average

Work Experience: This is by far the highlight of your profile. You can demonstrate a strong growth story by mentioning stories that capture the impact of the innovations you did as part of NPD. Additionally, if you can somehow translate your achievements in improving operations with a positive contribution to the bottom line of the company, it will show that you have techno-commercial prowess.

There can be N number of reasons why you got a ding last year after an interview invite. While a thorough ding analysis of your profile can only pin point specifics, at a high level below are the aspects you need to take care of this year:
- In the Interview (if and when you get shortlisted) showcase how you will be able to add value to the cohort based on your unique experiences.
- This year’s essays are quite different from those of previous years. They need more retrospection about self and expressing who you are as an individual. You can see my analysis of the essays here:
- State tangible areas of improvement in your profile from that of last year. It can be one or more of following – more responsibilities at work, promoted role, a new Extracurricular interest, more clarity in career goals etc. I know it will be tough since its been hardly 6 months since you had last applied. So any meaningful change will be hard to state.

Do note that R3 is tougher to get in compared to previous rounds with a like to like profile. So don't think too much of what went wrong last time and put your best foot forward for this season.

Cheers and all the very best !

Unfortunately, this GMAT score is a show-stopper at ISB AbhinavKumar. You really need to elevate that score by at least 50-60 points.

Extremely difficult (if not impossible) to achieve this transition. Perhaps a 2-year MBA course might be able to do this for you.

In any case, would strongly suggest that you do not mention this in your goals essay. Would completely take the Adcom off-guard!

Very little information Luci123Fer456. No mention of college that you graduated from, your undergrad major, the companies that you've worked for, your goals...nothing :).

In any case, ISB obviously considered your profile worthy enough for a shortlist last year. I would suggest that you take a feedback from ISB for last year's rejection. I am reasonably sure that ISB will highlight your slightly low GMAT score as an area of concern (not a show-stopper). But from your post, it looks like you would want to go ahead with the same score, this year as well.

Please work accordingly on your Reapplicant essay, to highlight how your candidature has improved in the last one year, specifically addressing the concerns that ISB had with your candidature last year.
