Consulting is an ambitious goal for international applicants without prior consulting experience. You will have your entire class applying for consulting positions in the first and second tier companies. Do you need a reason to be picked from 100 resumes so they could have 25 interviews. Do you have some thing on your résumé that would help you get chosen?
Ideally you would have a strong brand that is recognizable or consulting experience. That gets you picked to do an interview. Then it’s up to you to perform at the interview. There are 50 more steps in between with coffee chats and multiple interviews and all that good stuff so forgive me for oversimplifying.
I would caution you, from personal experience, that keeping your options open will hurt you and will hurt you recruiting. I had the same mindset of being open and partially I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, I am still not extremely sure what I want to do to be frank but you have to put that behind you and zero in on two options. Consulting is a good start. Think of a Plan B. That could be tech, finance, or operations/supply chain management. It will help you tremendously during business school if you have your goals fixed. Don’t confuse this with putting anything in concrete. I’m not saying that you have to choose your future right now. What I’m saying is that you can change your goals and your plans later on, but you have to have to very strong goals that you can tell everyone about and why you want to pursue them and why you’re passionate about them. This will help you network and recruit a lot faster rather than saying I want a job of any kind. 😎
So, if your goal is consulting, I would recommend Tepper. That is the dominant industry placement and where are you will find strength in numbers. It is closely followed by tech. Johnson on the other hand is prominent in finance followed by consulting.
Taking into consideration that you got more aid from Tepper, I would choose Pittsburgh without reservations.
Congrats!
