Top 15 vs Top 21 is not that much difference for what you are looking at. I think you would definitely experience a difference in New York and if you wanted to recruit there.

I think Foster is not going to be super helpful with recruiting and you will have to recruit off campus and network on your own. Johnson will be more helpful for an internship (something to contend with) but your internship will strongly depend on what you will bring to the table for the employer and how much you will be networking since you will be competing with a bunch of folks for the NY finance internships.

PS. I think Johnson has more benefits to offer than Foster - larger class size, more resources, Ivy League undergrad, more on campus opportunities, better caliber of professors and students. Better prestige and alum loyalty. It is definitely something to contend with. How to value it, is a diff story :-)

Johnson student here. I didn't recruit for finance but I think Johnson is a safer choice because most of the big banks in the East Coast recruits on campus, network effect for IB/Corp Fin is pretty impt.

Hey, I would prefer Johnson given its proximity to companies on the Eastside that hire for the roles you're interested in. PNW has only a couple of companies, of which I cannot think of any that does Asset Management, that industry is just not here. When it comes to Foster though, we have had hirings from companies such as Jp Morgan/Credit Suisse/Laird Nortan/Goldman Sachs/Russell Investments, but they mostly hire for private wealth or IB. I think going to Cornell would be a better option for you - you will have more resources to help you get an internship and most importantly a better network of people in your desired roles and companies. We definitely have a solid finance department, that might help you academically, but I cannot say if that would be important during the job search.

Foster is mostly Tech and if you want to get into "asset management working specifically with endowments/foundations", I don't think there is clear winner here. What kind of foundations are you talking about (Bill and Melinda gates etc) ? If you want to work in PNW then Foster is a great choice because of the connects you will build through mentors, informational interviews etc.
Cornell is a great school but the location makes it really tough to place you in PNW.
I would also look at the overall MBA cost as a deciding factor as its pretty significant and you should take into account the state of the economy in 2 years from now and try to minimize your overall cost.

Hope this is useful!!

Hi,

I am in the same boat. Have admits from Johnson(1year) and Foster(2 Year) programs
I have worked in business development in the IT industry for the past 5 years and intend to transition to a PM role in tech post MBA
Foster has offered a very attractive scholarship but Johnson has not offered any
I am however drawn to Johnson because of its brand value and also shorter time to receive my degree
Whats your take guys?

Decide the place you want to work post MBA. If its PNW or West coast then its Foster. If its east coast then its Cornell.
Also, look at your overall cost 1 year vs 2 year (Tuition and opportunity cost etc).
This is also going to be possibly your last degree , so one more year in grand scheme of things wont really matter a lot. Think about the good connections you would make during that extra 1 year, the courses and the amazing faculty members you would get in touch with.

Hope this helps!!

I agree with above comment by crackHSW . Looking at your goals and the offers, I would prefer Foster over Cornell. Brand value doesn't really matter much beyond certain schools. Forster will give you a chance to be closer to top tech giants in Seattle and in California. Good luck :)

I have heard that Tech Recruitment at Cornell is on the up.... Hence the dilemma is too much

Yeah, but it could be dominated with a few tech firms on the East coast.
Amazon, MS PM and SPM roles are open at Foster as well.
Foster places a significant number of folks in West Coast Tech companies after the likes of Stanford, UCB and UCLA.

Johnson is the better bet for the type of work you want to do. But if your deadset against NYC ambitions, then maybe reconsider
