Hello fellow MBA learners, I would like to ask something: is the usage of quoted by comma (, ____ ,) always add details to the subject or it can add details to the previous noun right before the comma?

poojaarora1818, Sathvik02, update. Had a few hits and misses today cause I am pretty tired but thanks to the both of you, I think I have a strong base to fall back on to keep me on track for CR if I were to lose the momentum with regards to my approach to the Q again. Thank you =)

At least to say, I am recognising my flaws better though I did fall back to 650 range Q’s to strengthen my approach.

Good question. I would say it depends on the context and structure of the sentence. Comma brackets are sometimes used to modify the nearest entity (before or after), or sometimes used to present non essential information etc. GMAT many a times tricks us by presenting option choices where non essential information will be converted to essential, vice versa. Have a look at this tricky & one of my fav question : after-junko-lay-down-having-finished-a-hard-day-s-work-sleep-308446.html

Good. Ups and downs will be there while mastering CR. Once you reach the threshold ( provided you work hard and smartly), you will start to see the answer before reading the option choices. That’s when you reach above 90th percentile in CR :-)

I am sharing few CR tips with you . These tips were shared by Marty Murry to me while handling CR ques. Here are few of them : The basic thing to do when you’re stuck between choices on a CR question is to realize that there’s something you aren’t seeing that you need to see to eliminate a choice or answer the question. So, you’re basically looking for what you’re not seeing, whether it’s a key detail or the direction a choice takes things or something else.
So, to find what it is you need to see, you can
- go back to the passage and look for something you might be missing, such as a key detail or the fact that two things that seem the same are actually different.
- review the exact conclusion to make sure you have it right.
- review how the conclusion is supported, if it is.
- check the direction and the effect of each choice again.
- go back to choices you thought were irrelevant. Maybe one wasn’t really.
- look for a gap in the argument and consider what could fill it or what malicious variable could wreck the argument.
- if the argument is a cause-and-effect argument, consider what types of choices might do what you need.
- make sure you have read all the choices all the way to the end.
- make sure you have read the question correctly.
- in general, go back and forth from the passage to the choices to see what details or relationships you might be missing.

Hope this answers to your query.

Yeah it did and was a good check list for practice cause I’ve been doing this but ofc, slip ups at times when I miss a word in the answer and miss out on picking it instead.

But this is so useful.

I am saving all of this

Drowning myself in Charles - GMAT Ninja’s videos to review my GMAT approach thus far (he is prolly the only person whose approach works for me) and one thing that I think I missed out on adding into my error log and maybe we all could consider when doing CR is to AVOID PRETHINKING cause then it may mislead our answer choice.
I hope I didnt misinterpret what I said though but yeah.

Personal POV, sometimes I feel threat of familiarity may be an issue if you’re not conscious of it. I have to always call out myself and rectify that to not divert from the Q. Both for RC and CR.

Update: Minimise. Dont necessarily rely on it.

Yes, I would say the pre-thinking in CR questions is not a good approach while selecting the answer choices. It’s a total waste of time. But one may pre-think considering gaps like a gap between a premise and the conclusion. We need to understand the argument and how a conclusion is supported. So, in that way, a pre-thinking approach may work.

can someone help in deciding b/w D and E,
There are two points I would like to discuss: 1) The placement of "In 1871", which not only is signifying when Germany became unified state, but also is telling when this particular treaty recognized W-1 as emperor. So it is best placed in btw as in D rather than in E. 2) GMAT always tries to avoid unnecessary words such as "of the country", which you can find in option E at last. We don’t need that actually. It’s already clear from the context of the sentence that W-1 became emperor of Germany. Hope you find this useful :-)

thanks a lot for the above useful points... I could have omitted option E, based on the point-2 you mentioned

While based on point 2, E is slightly more preferable than D, but I would not like to bet my life on that as it is not a deterministic error. Point 1) is a deterministic, modifier error on the basis of which you can surely act.
