Oh, but I do see quant question of the day.

srijasinha
Can anyone help me with the question 1 of this passage. The answer explantation given below does not look satisfying to me .
Hi, srijasinha!
The author of the passage most likely mentions "the learning curve" in the highlighted text for which of the following reasons?
A. To introduce a concept that is then analyzed in greater detail
B. To explain an assumption that underlies a subsequent recommendation
C. To identify a model to which an alternative is then proposed
D. To illustrate the wide variety of models that describe the way in which people gain knowledge
E. To cite a now-outdated theory about the way in which people learn
This is the question, right?
Answer A is wrong because he has not analyzed the concept of learning curve later. He has in fact said, ,"However, when a new technology is introduced into a particular sector of a company, the process of learning about and modifying that technology may not, in fact, be continuous. " After that he goes on to talk about what he feels to be true. Clearly, he is not in favour of learning curve. The sentence with the phrase itself says it is a familiar model which presumes that learners gain knowledge in a continuous and highly regular progression over time.
Answer B is tricky because it has words from the very same sentence, but the overall meaning is not in line with the author’s intent. It is also therefore wrong.
C says, a model is identified. And that is exactly what learning curve is as per the statement. It is a model. So, no reason to eliminate. And has he gone ahead and proposed an alternative model? Of course he has! The second para tells us, The period of intense activity by users is typically followed by one in which users return their attention to their customary production tasks, though using the new technology to accomplish those tasks." While has has not named his model, this is surely an alternative to the learning curve.
’wide variety of models’ in D makes it worth eliminating.
E is actually opposite to what is given because it implies the learning curve is now outdated. However, the passage says it is a familiar model.
Hence, C is the right answer.
