Hi Rahul,

You have a good profile. The GMAT at 750 is excellent and will be valued by Kelley.
Your have not given much details about your work experience, so you will have to tell me how has your career progress been? what impact have you made? Have you led teams?

You will be among the older applicants so addressing clear career goals, why they need an MBA and why is now the right time will be super important for a successful application.Kelley asks for an alternate career goal, should your first choice not materialize. For an older applicant, this question is all the more important, as the admissions would like to see flexibility in your career goals.

Also, you have mentioned that you are yet to take the TOEFL. If you meet this criterion, you will qualify for a waiver: applicants who have earned an undergraduate or post-graduate degree from an institution in which English was the language of instruction.

When are you planning to apply? I guess its not this year because Kelley has its deadline coming up on 5th and you are still planning a GMAT test.
In any case, aim for a 700+ score.

Great WE; Low GPA, Good UG, Good Initiatives.. Without the benefit of your resume, making assumptions of averages.
1) Cornell, UNC, McCombs, Tepper etc may be reach, but doable with impressively crafted resume and strong story.
2) Goals very important; Being able to link all your points in the resume, and showing leadership at mutiple levels will benefit you very well.
3) Articulate app could get you Fin Aid as well.

1. Kelley does take 650 sores, but your profile is going to be pitched against many in the much more competitive range. A GMAT of 700+ would have been safer
2. You should be able to demonstrate leadership (not necessarily through managerial/ supervisory roles)
3. ECs are weak.

Kelley is not a viable option at this score. Strongly suggest you to:
A. Retake GMAT and get 700+ scores (which may also get you access to other top 15 schools).
B. within the current scenario, ensure you apply to at least 3 other safe schools as well.

For Kelley,
1. your WE is slightly on the higher side (Assuming you will have 6+ yrs by the time you're ready to apply)
2. Quant part of your WE can be exploited very well; hopefully your GMAT shows a very high quant too.
3. Profile of Indian IT male will be a disadvantage
4. GMAT is on the lower side. For the profile of an Indian IT male, specifically, Kelley gets very high GMATs every year.
5. Co-curriculars are good

Given the above, Kelley is going to be a risk for you. Strongly suggest you to
A. Retake GMAT and get higher scores (which will also get you access to other top 15 schools).
B. within the current scenario, ensure you apply to at least 3 other safe schools as well.

Hi Abhishek,

Things are looking good for you, with the assumption that you will submit a solid application at Kelley. A slightly higher GMAT, say a 720+ would be beneficial - study harder and gain better marks.

I don't know what your career goals are to suggest other b-schools but Kelley is a good choice - it also has a major in analytics, if that what you intend studying

Post-MBA Goals- Join consulting/Analytics firms such as Fractal, ZS, Microsoft, IBM in managerial positions. B Schools having Analytics as a major would be beneficial.
How about B schools - Marshall(USC), CMU, NUS(Singapore) and ISB(India). Does my profile fits for those schools?

Hello GyanOne

Can you please review/evaluate my profile for Kelley Full Time MBA. I am from steel manufacturing background. I currently work at a F500 steel manufacturer HQ'd in Ohio. I am an Indian Citizen BUT have Green Card. However my GMAT is quite average. I did a lot better in GRE (680/800), but that was long time ago. I want to transition into more of FMCG/consumer focused/Consultancy roles and switch careers, hence seeing MBA.

GMAT - 630 (33V 44Q)

College (Graduation)
• Masters in Material Science (Florida, 2010): GPA 3.35/4
• B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering (India, Premiere Institute): GPA 7.2/10

Professional Experience
• 2 Yrs as Technical Service Engineer (F500 company, USA): Very much customer oriented role
• 2.5 Yrs as Product Quality Engineer (F500 company, USA): Plant quality focused role.
• 2 Yrs as Process Engineer (F500 company, India): Plant/Shopfloor focused role
• 2 Yrs as Lab Analyst (small company, USA): Plant Quality, Audit role.

Extra-Curricular: Nothing stellar here. Active member of local tennis club and team captain, few volunteering at local events, track and field secretary when in undergrad (its been a while)

Answers I seek:
• Is this score enough to get in assuming I will have decent essays and interview?
• Any scope for Scholarships?
• Will I be considered domestic or International applicant?

-Appreciate you response.

Hi mbanewbie

Thanks for posting. Here is our perspective:
- The score seems a bit low for Kelley. Although you might not necessarily need a 720+ here, getting to 680+ will be helpful. You mention you got 680/800 (old score format; this score must be a bit dated) on the GRE earlier, but that would be a sectional score. What was your total score? If the total was ~1350/1600 or higher, would recommend you look at the GRE instead (in the new format now, of course).
- Scholarships could be possible on the strength of your app, but you would increase your chance of getting one with a higher score. Neither of these factors is absolute, but each helps. The chance of a scholarship with a lower GMAT is not zero, but its certainly relatively lower.
- By nationality, you will be considered a permanent resident, so not an international applicant.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi Aditya,

Unfortunately the GMAT score plays a huge role in the MBA admissions process, specially for the Indians. I would encourage you to retake GMAT. Aim for a 720+ GMAt score - don't know what your past scores are and whether you can manage this, but that's a target you could work towards.
