Hi!
I have been panicking over this for a couple of days now. After I submitted my applications for R2, I have found out that I will be laid off by the end of January. The reason is NOT because of bad performance, but because I started a serious relationship with a coworker and it is against the policies of the firm. This can all be confirmed by both my supervisor and by my recommender.
Should I update schools? How bad does this hurt my chances? If I don't inform, will a potential admissions offer be rejected after the background check? Maybe it is better to be quiet until R2 decisions and hope they won't care if I left in January or March?

Personally, I'd say Don't ask Don't tell. You can explain in details if it does come up during background check. To my knowledge, companies usually will not disclose reason why you are fired during background check. Just my 2 cents.

My worries are not about "why" did I leave, but actually if schools will revoke my admissions offer (in April, during background check) because I didn't tell them I left my job in January OR if it is ok to explains this after admissions offer. I don't know if it is important to update them or will it just be unnecessary noise.
