So below is my profile and I was wondering my chances at consulting schools like Darden and Ross. I was told that taking supplemental course work will improve my chances. I'm considering taking additional classes if it helps my case, and with that said, what would those classes be then? Also, how many credits would I need to take then, since I really want to apply for 2019 R1. I'd appreciate the response.
Undergraduate School: Trinity University (Ranked #1 in Texas, even above Rice)
Undergraduate GPA: 2.33( I was a Business major for 3 years getting B'c and C's, but then switched to make History the major, that of which I got mostly A's, but the 3 years of B's and C's took its toll)
Undergraduate Degree: History Major, Minor in Business Administration
Working Experience:(2 years) 1 Year Morgan Stanley Wealth Management Analyst, 1 year Financial Analyst at Doctor's Clinic
GMAT Score: 750
Other: Former Collegiate Basketball Player, Amateur Cyclist, Volunteer work in India
Hi
vreddy1I find your score is decent enough to apply to these good B-schools Darden and Ross are pretty good but looking at your profile here are my points
Good things
1) You GMAT score is above average score of these schools
2) You have work experience with big brand like Morgan Stanley
3) You are not Engineer and have done your undergraduate in Business Management
4) You have participation in sports activities
5) You have done undergraduation from Trinity
Bad things
1) Your GPA is too low so there must be a good justification as to why did that happen. So don't ignore writing optional essays in your application.
2) You work experience duration is too less (2 years) than the average work experience of these scores so your essays must reflect the reasons why should they choose you
3) Instability reflected in your job switches so one must have strong reasons to substantiate why did you choose to let go Morgan Stanley over the second job
Where I find doing supplementary course can help, it's not going to boost your chances much unless you write strong essays. I suggest that the course that you intend to pick up should be from the relevant areas like financial management, wealth management etc or you may pick up some hot topics to know a bit more about them such as Emerging currencies (crypto currencies), Artificial Intelligence in Business management, Blockchain technology changing business world etc.
