Yes, that would be correct. Invites are through email. I see the text in quotes (at the bottom) when I login to the LGO portal. And in the last two years at least from what I have read through forums, not a single individual has claimed to have got an interview invite prior to the date mentioned. Also, most people got it at the same time as well, so I believe they update it in their system which releases them together via automated emails. Some people do get invites on later dates if someone backs out from their invite if they got into another school. I know at least 2 people who didn't interview last year as they had respectively accepted offers to Stanford and Harvard 1st round by that time and didn't want to just interview cz someone else could make more of that opportunity.

"Application Status for ____________

Thank you for submitting your application to the MIT LGO program.

We are currently reviewing applications and will email interview invitations soon. Interviews are by invitation only and interviews will take place during the months of January and February.

Can anyone shed some light on Interviewfest? I've heard that it takes place from Friday through Monday; is this correct? How much of this 4-day period is dedicated to interviews versus social events etc.?

Yes you are right. I did ask this question during the ambassador lunch.

27, 28, 29, 30 Jan and 3, 4, 5, 6 Feb. For LGO's mostly it happens in the Jan one. The Feb one is for the remaining LGO's who couldn't come during the LGO Jan interview fest or were asked to interview late. The Feb dates are actually the interview Fest for the MFin candidates. If you get an invite even later that the Feb dates (which did happen to one student last year, who also happened to get in), then they just work out a date with you on a one to one basis.

Thanks! Do you know anything about the activities that occur (i.e. formal interviews on Fri and Mon, social activities on the weekend)?

Did all of you upload something for the optional essay? I know optional essay is pretty much a required thing for Sloan application, but do you know anyone who got into LGO without answering the optional essay question?

I completed both optional questions (LGO and Sloan). I'm unsure what effect completing, or not completing, the optional essays has on admissions decisions, if any.

I do know someone who got into Sloan last year without the optional essay. But as for LGO, their essay system was different last year. They had 4 essays. This year they just had the optional essays apart from the statement of objectives.

I completed the LGO essay (I think it was called the statement of purpose and is meant for the engineering school). The LGO Adcom at the preview day were pretty clear that LGO essay is a required part, but the Sloan one is optional. I didn't get enough time to make something for the Sloan essay and thought it wasn't that big of a deal. Only after submitting my app and speaking with a couple of Sloan students, I realized that Sloan pretty much expects everyone to complete the optional essay. :/

This gives me some hope.

I know several that were accepted without writing the Sloan optional essay last year. Regarding the LGO optional essay (the new one that asks to talk about a technical problem you solved), I was told at an admissions event that, that is mostly for people who have not worked as engineers.

I shouldn't worry about this because I don't even know if I'll get an interview invite - my company is giving us off for Chinese New Year during that first week but I'm scheduled to go to Vancouver to visit the boyfriend. Well, here's hoping I have a reason to change my flights as the panic sets in for the next five days!

Just a minor suggestion. For those of us lucky enough to be invited, maybe we should create a Whatsapp chat-group to discuss strategies for the upcoming Interviewfest.

P.S. The wait is very unnerving!

As for this question. You obviously interview on one of the days. And you can interact with other LGO candidates as well.

LGO was my only school. Felt like a strong fit, and there weren't any schools that had the same effect as LGO's Preview day.
