My name is Devashish Mishra. With 11 years of IT experience in Project Management role, I am based in India, Pune. In my IT experience, I have spent 5 Years in London, UK (from 2011 to 2016). Currently, I am working in FIS Global and finished my PMP and PMP ACP certification.

In 2016, I have established a Web Development and Design company named 'Tekzone Web solutions India Private Limited' which is running successfully with 10+ employees at present. My wife is taking care of day to day activities and I am guiding her with business decisions and client contracts, sales and IT architecture and delivery.

At this juncture of my career, I am looking to get experience in IT Leadership beyond project deliveries for short term and then take this holistic experience to expand my company further. For doing so, doing MBA will definitely be helpful. However, I am unable to decide what would be the good list of colleges to look for. Full-time MBA will definitely impact my startups progress so there is an option of Distance learning MBA but not sure how much benefit it will bring.

At present, I am able to score 660 - 700 marks in the various GMAT mock tests that I have tried.

Can you please guide me what would be the best for me in terms of searching colleges/Courses to meet my short-term and long-term goals. Also, it should be value for money. Accordingly, I will plan my efforts and focus.

Looking forward to have your answer on my queries...

Hi Devashishmishra,

Thank you for your post and congratulations on your successful business. This is difficult to assess without knowing what geographies you are considering. A couple of things to keep in mind as you think further. First, most full-time MBA programs in the U.S. carry an average work experience of 5 years and a middle 80% range of 3.0 or 3.5 to 7.0 or 8.0 years. So you are definitely on the older and more experienced side. That will make full-time programs a challenge. (European programs can sometimes trend a little older.) If visas weren't an issue, you'd really align better with Executive MBAs at this point. Second, if you are in fact considering the U.S., a good guidepost is to consider any programs for which your GMAT score is 30 or 40 points above the class average as somewhat "in range" (given that you are applying from such a crowded and competitive demographic). But even then, as captured in my first point, the fact that you will be among the oldest applicants in their pool will make your case for "why MBA" and "why now" more difficult. It's not impossible, but you will need to be super proactive and specific and have a fantastic rationale for it. I wish you the best of luck!
