Pack 3, Question 1 of 5

Electricity at first began coming into houses through direct current because of safety issues created by the high voltage of alternating current, but transformers safely lowered the voltage for use indoors, removing the only advantage direct current had compared to the efficiency of alternating current over long distances.

Ⓐ Electricity at first began coming into houses through direct current because of safety issues created by the high voltage of alternating current, but
Ⓑ Electricity coming into houses through direct current because the high voltage of alternating current created safety issues, but
Because electricity came into houses through direct current, since the high voltage of alternating current created safety issues,
At first, electricity came into houses through direct current because the high voltage of alternating current created safety issues, but
While electricity came into houses through direct current, the high voltage of alternating current creating safety issues, but

when you first observe based on the bolded words in the options there is probably a sentence construction issue and parallelism "but" is a parallelism marker
we also notice "at first" bouncing around in two of the options- probably a word modifier issue

in option E we do not need to use both "while" and "but" it created redundancy and meaning issue
in option C- it states that "because electricity came into houses through DC, the transformers safely lowered the voltage-
this is an illogical cause-effect pair
option B- electricity "coming"........., but transformers safely lowered
safely lowered and coming are not parallel to each other
option A- same issue as B- "began coming" vs safely lowered"

therefore option D is correct

Electricity at first began coming into houses through direct current because of safety issues created by the high voltage of alternating current, but transformers safely lowered the voltage for use indoors, removing the only advantage direct current had compared to the efficiency of alternating current over long distances.

Ⓐ Electricity at first began coming into houses through direct current because of safety issues created by the high voltage of alternating current, but
Ⓑ Electricity coming into houses through direct current because the high voltage of alternating current created safety issues, but
Because electricity came into houses through direct current, since the high voltage of alternating current created safety issues,
Ⓓ At first, electricity came into houses through direct current because the high voltage of alternating current created safety issues, but
While electricity came into houses through direct current, the high voltage of alternating current creating safety issues, but

in options C and E there is starts with because and while , making missing main clause issues in themi.e,
c) Because electricity came into houses through direct current,
e)While electricity came into houses through direct current, the high voltage of alternating current creating safety issues, but

where as in options A and B there is verb tense issue , instead of continuous tense i.e, coming in these sentences , "came" serves better.
