DS Question 1 - Sep 23 If ’x’ is even, is x^a + y^b = odd 1) y is not a multiple of 2 2) ’a’ and ’b’ are positive odd integers Source: Others | Difficulty: Medium
1) If y is not a multiple of two, y can either be some odd integer, or some fraction. If y is some fraction, the sum is neither odd nor even. If y is some odd integer, b is some integer, and a is some integer, then the sum will be even. Ins.
2) If a and b are positive integers, there is still no information on y. If y is some fraction, then the sum may or may not be an integer
3) Although we know that x^a is some even integer, we have no idea if y^b is integer or fraction. Which means we cannot determine if the sum will be a fraction or integer.
