No shortcut here? Why not 50+20-2*30?

2*30, I did this remembering my study at A Level,
I think this was the way to calculate change when the variable hax power.

this will only work when we have the percentage changes happening to only one value not with 3 values as per the question

Also do we need allegation
Its not directly needed but in some cases it is useful to better solve it using allegations to save time

0.40 X 25 + 0.80 X A = 0.60 ( 25 + A)

Solve for A , you’ll get 25 .

I saw shortcut method using proportion and ratio pls explain that
The interest rate on $500 is given as 7%. Hence the total interest generated would be (7/100)*500 = 35.
Similarly, the interest on $1500, let’s assume it to be R%. Total interest in this case would be (R/100)*1500= 15R.

As per the question, the combined interest rate is 8.5%. That means, the interest on the total amount will be 8.5% of the total amount.
Total amount = 500 +1500 = 2000
Hence, total interest rate is (8.5/100) * 2000 = 170

Now, as per the question, we can form this equation:
35 + 15R = 170
From this we get R = 9
