answer is C ( cannot be determined)
reason is, because what if y = 0 , since 0 is also an integer, and we know anything to the power 0 is 1, which is odd. So, we cannot determine

It can only be ’0’ (option A). as the expression is even, it means x^3y needs to be odd so that odd - 1 can become even. Now, for x^3y to be odd, x can not be even or else, the whole term would be even and so, the only possibility of ’x’ is that it is odd and so, odd number divided by 2 leave 1 as remainder i.e. the answer.
Had option B in mind but somehow typed A (explanation is correct and the remainder should be 1)

hi, this may sound really silly but if there is a GMAT expert, i’m willing to pay you to create a video of you learning from one of the TTP quant modules to see how you go through it so I can mimic it. if you’re interested, lmk. I want to know meta learning strategies so I would want things like how you learn the info, implement spaced repetition, etc.

Suhit borrowed a sum of $6300 from Vikas at the rate of 14% for 3 yr. He then added some more money to the borrowed sum and lent it to Mohit at the rate of 16% of simple interest for the same time. If Suhit gained $618 in the whole transaction, then what sum did he lend to Mohit?

If you want a standard way,
the gain 618 comes from lending money (6300+x) at 16% interest rate - borrowing 6300 at 14% rate.
(6300+x)*16%*3 - (6300*14%*3) = 618
solve this and you will get x = 500.
The explanation in the thread has a quicker way to solve as the length of years interest type calculation are same.

length of years and*
