Hi Guys,
My name is Yash and i ll be applying for B school admissions this Fall for the 2021 intake. I wanted to have an expert run through my profile and help me with identifying a list of safe schools that i can target. For starters, a bit about myself -
Age 28, Indian male
Graduated as a Bachelor of engineering (computer science) from PSG College of Technology, Anna University , Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. My gpa was 6.3 on 10 ( a bit on the lower side - i know..while the university is highly reputed and my college ranks among india's top 20 engineering colleges , i sort of messed up in college .. lack of interest and focus knocked my grades off and i barely managed to get through...i even have a few F's on my transcript). But i was a decent student in school and used to be a class topper. More over i had weak ECA's in college apart from the fact that i was a member of the english society and helped to conduct english workshops and debates for college students and especially help non native speakers overcome stage fright (a problem which was highly prevalent in that demographic).
WE - After graduation, i worked for 4 months as a pro bono consultant and helped to migrate brick and mortar businesses into transitioning to the online e commerce space. I worked free of charge and managed to help 2 clients to transition to the online e commerce space - in a nutshell, i worked as a research, business development and liason officer between the client and the IT design and development teams. In sept 2014, I joined EY India as a risk and process improvement consultant and worked there for 5 Years, 2 months as of nov 2019. I have worked on both indian and US clients and major aspects of my job included identifying business risks (both financial and IT related) in the client's financial environment, working with management to design and implement controls to mitigate financial risks and optimising financial processes by focussing on automation. However, I quit in nov 2019 after my father fell ill and needed help and care. Since i m the only child and my mother works as a doctor with the indian gov, one of us was needed to look after him for some time. I had hoped to get a job by mar 2020, after the problem subsided, but haven't been able to because of the covid crisis.
Moreover, i had planned to start applying for b schools for the fall 2020 intake. I gave the gmat in 2018 and got a 640 47Q 31V. I had applied in the fall 2018 intake to quite a few schools ( but i messed up the school selection and ended up applying to extremely competitive schools for my score ), although i did get waitlists from NYU stern and Simon Rochester and a sort of a getting to know call from Maryland Smith. I did not however convert any of the others. This year, i am adamant on trying once again and will seek professional help with the applications. The biggest drawbacks in my case are the weak college academics and ECA's and a gap in my professional career since 2019. I have been helping my aunt with her botique business, looking after its social media marketingand conducting SEO. But these activities have been extremely sporadic and race. As a part of job, i routinely worked with process owners of various financial environments and used to interact with them remotely via con calls and VC's ..i did my profile evaluated and was told that professionally i should be okay, as long as i leverage and use the EY brand name and my experience in the essays.
To counter the low gmat, i have decided to give the exam again in September,,and this time will focus on weak areas and mock tests. What i would really need guidance on, is to identify a list of safe schools for my current gmat score and work experience.
My target industry, post MBA would be supply chain management, as in the long term, i would like to set up a social venture in the SCM field - focussing on ensuring that essential commodities reach rural and under developed markets especially back home in india. i had identified the below schools
Terry, UGA - confused between operations management and entrepreneurship here
Babson, olin
Purdue Krannert
Pittsburgh Katz
UC San Diego
GW University , DC
MaysTexas A&M
Given, my career goals, do you think it's advisable for me to apply to these schools ? Do i stand a chance ? Are there any other schools that i can apply to ? I am also interested in schools offering a dual MS/ MBA in Supply Chain.
Thank you in advance.
Best,
Yash
