Well, if you can get a 20+ point improvement, then GMAT will definitely help. No second thoughts about it. There is a difference between a 700 and a 730 (or more).

So, applying with a 700 would not be good idea?

That's not what I said/implied.

I just meant to say that your chances would increase with a 730+ score.

On your initial question:

Q: I understand that my acads have been average. Gmat score is average too. Will this pull my profile down? Should I re-take GMAT?

A: You should consider retaking the exam. You have nothing to lose. The schools almost always consider your highest score. Your score won't necessarily bring your profile down, but if you believe your academics are average, the best way to counter that is with a strong GMAT. You already have a good score, but if you have the time, money, energy, etc. to give it another go, you can only improve your chances.

Good luck,

Hello Eksha22,

You should retake the GMAT as you have nothing to lose at all. Not only will it help make up for your average academics but also help spike your application.

This isn't so much about the average GMAT score pulling down your application; instead, this is about how a higher score can help lift up your application.

Good luck!

Hi RISHTKZ hope this finds you in good health

A score of 720+ on GMAT would help you showcase a balanced profile. Your prior experience in process design seems interesting. You must understand ISB is particular that applicants have utmost clarity on post-MBA prospects. Therefore, you should think strategically about how you could connect your current experience with your post-MBA goal of product management. You need to be specific about the kind of product management roles you wish to get into. To have a conscientious plan B, consider program management roles such as ops design and supply chain network design which seem to align very well with your prior experience.

Reach out should you need professional guidance.

Best wishes

Thanks for the help.

I will keep these points while I am writing my essay.

Is there any specific requirement on AWA and IR scores while applying to ISB?

RISHTKZ none in specific but try to have a balanced score on these as well, at least a 5 in AWA and >3 on IR (although IR may not be a concern for ISB).

Hello RISHTKZ,

A score upwards of 720 on the GMAT will give you a good chance of making it to your target school. Needless to say, how well you articulate your strengths, career progression, and goals through essays is going to be crucial as well.

All the best!

Hello RISHTKZ,

No specific requirements as such but having a 5 on AWA and a 4 on IR would be something you should look for at least.

Thanks.

Hello RISHTKZ

With an Engineer background and one of the most sought after goals post MBA, the simplest advice you can get on the GMAT is to target an above avg score of the school (710 in ISB's case).
Extracurricular activities look old and unless you can showcase how are they relevant today and to the B-School application, these may not add much weight.

You may want to read here on what factors work in a profile and here to add to your research on career goals.
