Profile evaluation
Hi all,
I recently took my gmat and scored 710(v38,q49). I have completed my undergrad from Jadavpur university Kolkata (Gpa:4.0) in production engineering. I then pursued my MBA from IIM Kozhikode (GPA:3.2). Post which I have been working for 4+ years in the petroleum industry as an area sales manager.
Could you please tell me what all colleges are likely for me?
1. I want to shift to either Canada or Europe
2. Want to pursue a full time mba
3. Having already specialised in sales and marketing in previous mba, I’m trying for a specialising in finance.
Thanks in advance
Posted from my mobile deviceHi,
a few points to note:
1. your GMAT score is good for most European/ Canadian MBAs (including the top ones). The MBA programs pay more attention to your overall profile and not so much to your GMAT score alone. So go ahead and apply with this score.
2. As MG said, do not convert your previous score. The conversion process is not so straight forward and unless you are using a paid service, which takes many factors into account while converting, you are likely to go wrong if you are doing it by yourself. Moreover, b-schools these days don't ask applicants to convert.
3. You need to be very clear about your reasons for a second MBA or rather, the need for it. B-schools will seek clear answers there. IMO that answer should be led by a need to cover some kind of knowledge/ skill/ experience gap that you are lacking currently and its keeping you from reaching your goals (this is the crux of the goals essay). I say this because I see some loose gaps in the short description you have given here- you are in a sales and marketing role since past four years. Why do you need a specialization in finance? Do you want to switch your career to a finance role? DO you know exactly what that would be? Some of these roles may not be easy to transition into without past finance experience.
Also, note, that a specialization is only a bunch of courses in the same subject combined together. Perhaps you could benefit from the Finance subjects which are part of the core curriculum, as well as take some electives that suit your career need.
Anyhow, this is a short analysis based on the brief description you have given here. Feel free to reach out to me at
