Hi,

I would like to request you to evaluate my profile for top 20 MBA programs in US for class matriculating 2016.


Education:

High School (10th) - 73%

Higher Secondary (12th) - 72%

Bachelor of Engineering - 73%

Extra Curricular:
1. Participated in Regional Cricket and Volleyball competitions representing our school.
2. Write poems but unpublished.


Professional Experience:

Total Experience: Over 9 Years by the March '16.

Worked in:

1. L&T Infotech Ltd., Mumbai (2.5 Years)
-> Lead a team of 6
-> Awarded with Star Performer Award for Leadership

2. TCS Ltd., Mumbai (3.3 Years)
-> Lead a team of 10
-> Awarded with On The Spot award for quick issue resolution.

3. Nucleus Software Pte Ltd., Singapore (6 Months)
->Worked on improving existing processes but do not have any written proof for the same.

4. HCL Singapore Pte Ltd., Singapore (By March '16 it will be approx 2 years as I have no plan of changing job again till I get into business school :) )


I am preparing for writing GMAT by January 2015 and aiming for 700+ score.

Can you please suggest if my profile will be able to draw attention of top 20 business schools. If no, what score should I aim for in GMAT (as that is the only thing apart from admission essays and interview, that I can work on right now).

What all schools can I aim for? I am highly inclined towards Strategic Consulting post MBA and have read Michigan Ross and Emory Goizueta being good schools for people who are willing to get into Consulting post MBA.

thanks for your post. You have what appears to be a very common background for b-school applications, meaning yes, you should be able to get into a top 20 school, but you will need to focus over the next year on what will set you apart from others with a similar background, of which there will be plenty. The good news is, up to 35% of b-school graduates go into consulting, so just about any school you choose will prepare you well for a consulting job. You are doing the right things to target schools which host the kind of job recruiters you seek--continue to do this. Consulting firms like to see high GMAT scores just like schools do, so as well as you can do on the GMAT the better it will go for you both in getting into school and in getting the job you seek afterwards. Also, make sure you have answers for the visa issues. If you can convince schools you will be able to secure an H1B visa, you will be far more attractive. Let us know if we can help.

Hi Bryant,

I certainly will put all my tear and toil in GMAT and hope to cross 700+.

One question though, do I need H1B for attending schools or post MBA job? I think I do not need to convince schools about H1B as it should not be their concern, it should be of importance for post MBA career. Please help me understand the visa requirement.

If you demonstrate the ability to easily be sponsored (or having been sponsored in the past), it helps schools know you are a good bet you can be hired by a US company on the backend. You do not need the H1B as a student, only for the job after, as you correctly indicated.
