Thanks for evaluating my profile.

Undergrad: University of Maryland (GPA:3.7)

Major: Finance and Economics

Years Work Experience: 5 years at matriculation

Nationality: US Citizen

Gender: M

Ethnicity: Indian

GMAT: 710 (Q:49 V:37)

Work Experience:
* 2 years at a GSE (Fannie/Freddie) - Worked with the distressed asset portfolio - think this experience can help me differentiate myself from your typical investment banking applicant
* 1 year of M&A at a small boutique Investment Bank
* 2 years (current): Working at a lower tier bulge bracket investment bank in leverage finance / merchant banking

Certifications: CFA Charterholder

Extra Curriculars :
* Taught Hindi at a local Saturday school for 2 years; however since I have moved to my current job in NYC, I have limited time to do any extra curriculars due to my work schedule. Not sure if this will hurt my chances, any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

ST Goals: Work for a credit fund or private equity shop

LT Goals: Once my career is over, I would like to teach finance in some capacity.

Target Schools: Wharton, Columbia, Sloan, Booth, Haas

You have great core profile characteristics, but you are hailing from a very populated b-school feeder industry and will face tremendous competition also in the male Indian applicant pool. I like that you will stand out vs. other Indian applicants thanks to your experience in the US and your education here as well. you may want to also add a couple of other schools to your list just so you aren't only going after the best schools in the world (and the most selective). Of course this also depends on the answer to the following question: what is more important, to go to school next year or to go to the school of your choice. In other words, if you get rejected from your target schools, will you try again at those schools the following year, or are you willing to go to a lower ranked school so you can get on with your plan? Once you figure out the answer to this question, you can decide if you want to also include applications to a couple of safety schools. Still, I think you have a good shot at your target schools as long as you have a thoughtfully crafted application and good recommendations. Let us know if we can help.

Thanks Bryant - I'm open to other possibilities, however given the financial and opportunity cost, I would really prefer one of the schools on the list. Are there any schools in particular that you would suggest? Also, do you think that not completing any EC activities in the past 2 years would hurt my possibilities for my top schools?

The top schools have their pick of applicants and most are the "whole enchilada" so to speak, meaning they are engaged actively in their community outside of work and even hold leadership positions therein. Most people applying to business schools have some reach schools, some safety schools and a couple in between. All I see are reach schools on your list. These schools are reach schools for anyone, so while it would be difficult for me to recommend alternates, I would recommend you add a couple of schools to your list that are more accessible, just in case.
